Boyd Hill

Our family has been so disappointed in our year at this school. I wish that I had not ignored the school's report card and decided to take a chance on the choice program. My twice-exceptional child started the year with high hopes but received no assistance in fitting in or finding their place. When my child faced bullying, the school offered no meaningful support or intervention. The social-emotional well-being of unique learners is entirely overlooked here. While the inquiry program sounded great on paper, the execution was incredibly underwhelming.

My child attended Ebinport Elementary for many years and recently graduated. One teacher and two staff members constantly harassed him. Having ADHD, he was singled out constantly, two teachers constantly belittled him and it’s because of his treatment here that he’s in therapy. I filed many complaints only to have them ignored even by the school superintendent. After going over their heads, I started to get results after six months of emails. If you have a child with ADHD please get your child an advocate because this school does not follow federal government guidelines. He did not feel nor was he safe here enduring many “accidents” which were chalked up to “kids will be kids.” This school use to be wonderful and can be again with a change of administration, teachers and staff. I hope no child will ever have to suffer the way mine did.

The staff is excellent and really care about the students and having the arts involved in their young lives will make an impact and help when the children get older.

Rock Hill School district has great schools!

We had very high hopes for Sunset park and hoped that my son would enjoy going to school. He is in kindergarten and complains every day that he dislikes school for various reasons. He tells me that he feels he can't do anything right and that he is constantly being reprimanded though he is making efforts to follow instructions and do the right things. He has so far been bored by curriculum and says that his classmates often tease him.

The PTA is amazing. Lots of great events and a very welcoming staff. They have done many renovations to modernize this older building. There are also lots of support staff for students who need extra help.
