The teachers are lovely. They care about the children and they try to support them in their learning. I chose this school for my child thinking that a private school was the best choice academically for the area in which we live. The school is very small, but the teachers love the children and do their best to support them. The issue is that they do not properly prepare their students for the real world. In the real world, they will not get by with religious notions alone. In the real world, natural phenomena such as tornadoes or volcanic eruptions are not explained simply as "because God did it", there are scientific explanations. In the real world, children are not discouraged from asking scientific questions. In the real world, math studies are rigorous. This year, my child transitioned from Legacy Christian Academy to a highly rated public school in Beaufort county for 3rd grade, and he is testing at a 1st grade level in math AFTER already having been held back an extra year in K5. I do not blame the teachers because I know that my child is difficult to teach at times because of his lack of focus. They did the best that they could. I do, however, blame the curriculum because the "review" portion of the start of this school year in a public school contains math concepts that my son has never even heard of or seen before. Every other child in his class is breezing through this, bored of how easy it is. To my son, though, the content is completely alien. I do not blame Legacy Christian Academy for my child's difficulties in focus and learning. That is an issue that I have helped him with at home during his entire school career. He tested well in intellect during psychological testing but poorly in focus. I do, however, blame the school for not having a curriculum that comes even close to the standard in a public school setting. Private schools are supposed to be better academically, but here I am kicking myself for making such a major (expensive) mistake with my child's education.
