5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe school as a whole is wonderful. We’ve had the pleasure of our children being taught by some wonderful teachers. The administration is helpful, supportive, and delightful to interact with. Unfortunately, though the community seems to not appericate or respect the gem of a educational institution they have in the neighborhood. Residents litter school grounds with used condoms, broken glass liquor bottles, beer cans, cigarette boxes & butts. Despite being a Richland One school l, South Kilbourne does not seem to get the same budget, attention, or privilege that other desirable Richland District One Schools such as Rosewood Elementary, A.C. Moore Elementary, and Brennan Elementary receive. It’s apparent that there is neglect on the district’s part and it would appear it’s so, due to South Kilbourne having a predominantly/disproportionately black and low income student body compared to the other school within the same zip code (some less than 2 miles away) that are predominately white and have student from higher income households. South Kilbourne lacks some resources/services that other schools with the district have access to. Lack of police presence to control traffic/enforce school speed zone at the beginning and end of a school day is a concern as many students walk home unescorted by an adult & there’s a lack of sidewalks for pedestrians to ensure safety. Attending to the school grounds to keep hazardous materials away from students (ie used condoms, broken glass, etc). Chain link fencing surrounding parts of the school are damaged and pose a safety hazard as animals can get in, children could slip through, and/or the damaged chain link could injure students if the fell into it. South Kilbourne’s playground equipment looks dated & is minimal- there’s a basketball without hoops, but Rosewood Elementary got a new playground & has iron fencing & better maintained grounds. My children really struggle with being outsiders with being the only white/Asian kids-it’s hard to fit in and they are made to feel different and it gets overwhelming for them at time (ie children obsessively touching their hair). There’s bullying that takes place with some children that are modeling the same violence and aggression their parents teach at home.Parent Review7y ago2 Reviews - Meadowfield Elementary School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageCurrently, my child attends MedowField elementary school by far. Everything is going great with my kid teachers and my kid loves the school. The school is really a blessing. The only thing that concerns me is one of the staff members she’s not that friendly she don’t greet the kids in the mornings the lady I’m referring to works in the office so she’s the front end of the school. I would think she would be more friendly. She don’t speak in the mornings. She doesn’t say good morning. She doesn’t greet the students by telling the students. good morning. I just wanna know if your attitude is that bad. Why are you working around children? She doesn’t have a pleasant attitude, and I pray that she finds peace in her heart and can start being a little nicer.Parent Review1mo ago24 Reviews - Hammond School

NAGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AveragePre-K year was great for my child....loved the teachers.....they were pleasant and as I stated invested into given their all into the children. When my child entered into Kindergarten....all of that changed. The beginning of the year started off great, then every little thing that my child did was being called out. I overlooked as much as I could as parent but when a child starts to question at 5 years old "why doesn't this child get sent to office when we both are doing the same thing" or your child comes home and says that he has to walk around with his hands in his pockets because this is what he was told by the school guidance counselor and lead teacher is a serious problem. Having a child apologize to another student because the student states that she felt intimidated because my child was looking at her (what 5 year old says that....those are the words put into a child's mouth by an adult) she will not be successful as adult when it's time for her to complete interviews nor will she have any public speaking strengths. Having a child write apology letters for his wrist accidently overlapping with another students wrist, writing apology letters for a lunch box accidently grazing against students while they are in a line.....these incidents shows that this school is setting these children up for complete failure when they enter into adulthood. There is no life skills being taught and these children are being programed with the attitude of entitlement.Being told by an administrator "because of your child size we feel the need to protect him". What are you protecting him from again??? (That question was never answered. This school was complete disappointment and I expected so much more for them.Parent Review6y ago31 Reviews
