I am also a current teacher. Children at The Antioch School are valued as contributing community members, motivated learners, and individual people. Children learn respect by being treated with respect and are taught conflict resolution skills that will benefit them for life. Flexible learning groups and time for individual work, allow each student to move through curriculum at their own pace. Ample free time gives children opportunity to explore areas of their own interest in ways that work best for them, including play, in nature, and with movement. My son was well served by the school. The school's approach fosters love of learning, initiative taking, and positive thinking. This past school year one Kindergartner wanted to see the inside of The Riding Center--a local therapeutic equine stable. The Kindergarten had walked to the Center a few times to observe and sketch the horses and the countryside. I arranged for the group to get a barn tour. The children got to see the barns and grounds, learn what is required in the daily care of the horses, and to pet Honey Pot--a 25 year old retired mare. Most importantly, the children got to see one child's plan come to fruition in a way that was enjoyed by everyone in the group. Making plans--large and small--is a daily part of all the children's days from the youngest (3 1/2 years) to the oldest (12 years).Teacher Review1y agoThe GreatSchools Rating compares schools on a variety of school quality indicators including test scores, college readiness, equity and more.
