"I’ve been living here for about 4yrs now and There aren’t any close by that I know of. Usually in the downtown there’s always different community events like jazz music, international foods, small businesses etc"

"This is a up and coming neighborhood. New homes being built every year. Five minutes from downtown and all it has to offer. 5-15 minutes to great shopping. On the bus line if needed. "

"It’s close to the hospital and downtown area. It’s close to the highway and a couple gas stations as well as shopping down New Bern Ave. "

"Commute was 30 minutes without traffic, I can only imagine what it will be with traffic. I don’t feel like the commute is worth making for this community."

"It’s slowly getting gentrified. It definitely isn’t like the north there are less coffee shops and events. "

"I honestly wish they would’ve put 2 bus stops in the chastain subdivision. On marshlane and mackinac island. That would help with public transportation access. Otherwise it takes 20-30 minutes to travel anywhere in the city. "

"Nice neighborhood but has the usual outliers. In general, would recommend but still getting used to the area. The most important thing is being close to target. "

"There's no public transportation this far out. You will need a vehicle to get around. It's about a 10 minute drive to downtown and a 7-10 minute drive to 264, 40 & 440 "

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school's biggest advantage is it's GT/AIG program and the variety of electives it provides to enrich the kid's forte including but not limiting to ELA/MATH AIG courses, Orchestra, Choir, Dance ensembles, Art to name a few. Most teachers are very supportive to the kid's needs and they work as a community for the betterment of the kids. The parent involvement is awesome and the school welcomes ideas/inputs from parents to a great extent.Parent Review1y ago11 Reviews - Barwell Road Elementary

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy daughter has been attending this school since kindergarten & now she’s in 4th. I’ve never had a problem with the school nor teachers. The communication with parents/teachers/staff has always been something I liked. They send out communications through the class dojo or flyers about school events. The 2019-2020 was hard for everyone which was understandable because of COVID-19 & online learning was hard. Luckily my daughter’s teachers (Mr. Cox, Mrs. Pace & Mrs. Caudil) all were very helpful & went beyond to make sure she didn’t fall short. She got a 3 in her math EOG & a 4 in her reading EOG. She’s been in 4th grade for a little over a month now & I am still very happy with the communication from her teachers (Mr. Rhodes & Mrs. Finney). My daughter once had a bullying issue in 2nd grade where an older student told her an indecent comment during carpool. The school notified me & contacted the boy’s mom & my daughter said the next day they had put more teachers in the carpool area to make sure he didn’t bother her. I also like how the school communications are sent out both in English & Spanish so it makes it very helpful to a lot of the Hispanic students & their parents, even teachers know some Spanish.Parent Review4y ago9 Reviews - Rogers Lane Elementary

2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school is a complete joke. No structure, a lack of effective strategies, and more. It's like roaches, what I witnessed this morning they look just like roaches scattering yelling and pushing and fighting and acting belligerent these are elementary kids y'all. And the teachers sitting or standing there with her hand on her chin she didn't get up until she seen me watching. Definitely the type of teachers that are only there for a paycheck and hopefully I can get my child transferred out of this school because I think it's not a good school. I think it causes what may be a good child to maybe have a not so good experience because of the environment that I seen today iand many other days. Almost daily I'm getting a report of something where my child is misbehaving but from what I seen today this school is definitely a majority of the problem. I sent the principal notifications of my child coming home saying that they was hit and no teacher contacted me I reached out to the principal and got no responses and this was after 3 or 4 times that I had already spoke to the principal and was promised that it would never happen again and it has happened several times.
