"Busy streets but safe along freeway. Bike paths are accessible and near several grocery stores and restaurants. Good place for single people or couples since apartments run cheaper here than other parts of the Metro Honolulu areas. "

"Location, location, location. Located Close to shopping; parks and public schools and transportation. The island’s most prestigious private schools are located in this neighborhood as well as closely located near the University of Hawaii and the William S. Richardson School of La. .This neighborhood is locate in this close proximity to the freeway access both to the East and West. "

"It is so conveniently located. Easy access to shopping, businesses and the freeway. Most neighbors are friendly. Although the neighborhood is densely populated, it is still relatively quiet and peaceful. It is a very ethnically diverse neighborhood that works well blending and assimilating those cultures together. "

"This area is central Oahu. Everything is conveniently located in the area. Many of my favorite restaurants is a 5 min drive away. My son walks to and from Stevenson Middle School. Living in Makiki is affordable and perfect for my little family and I. "

"Peaceful, friendly, lots of flowers and trees, great parks, lovely old homes and pleasant condos - low traffic as it is at the foot of the mountains, safe from floods (or tsunamis), good schools, hospitals, shopping, great bus transport to anywhere on Oahu, and Makiki Park! What more could anyone want???"

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI am a proud parent of my children s that attended Queen Ka'ahumanu School. There are lots of care and aloha you can see in this school. The teachers and staff work so hard in helping and teaching students that really need the assistance. From students who can speak English, to students who cannot speak English. Great help and support from the faculty and staffs. Thank you for all your assistance.Parent Review12y ago5 Reviews - Montessori Community School

NAGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMCS has become a second family to us and our two children. It is truly a special place where kids learn independence, confidence, skills and knowledge, all while having fun and feeling a part of the community. Reading some of the other reviews, it is disappointing to hear that a couple people had negative experiences. I believe these to be very specific, isolated cases, as all the other parents we talk to absolutely love the school and administration. As parents we feel very supported by the teachers and administration. All of the teachers and staff know us and our kids. We have touchpoints with them every drop-off and pick-up and they always make themselves available if we have concerns. There is a full time counselor that is a valuable resource. If we have a concern -- even if it's a behavioral issue at home, the counselor will help support us and even do observations of the child in the classroom if it is something we want. Montessori method has also proven to be an amazing, timeless way to engage and teach children in an intuitive way. We would highly recommend this school!Parent Review11mo ago9 Reviews - Playmate Kindergarten, Day Care
