My son struggled with reading for a long time. It wasn't limited by his ability or intelligence, he simply wasn't interested, and therefore didn't waste time reading when he could've been playing outside or doing arts and crafts. The reading department, and all staff at Wapping were able to encourage my son to read by getting him interested in reading, rather than forcing him to learn. The school-wide Dr. Seuss day is a favorite program of mine, and perpetuated this sentiment. Thanks, Wapping! He can't wait for middle school!

I am so impressed with this school. My son just finished 5th grade and we are so sad to be moving on. The reviews posted prior to 2020 reflected a former Principal. Mr. Kenyon who is the current Principal is very engaged with the students and handles all parental concerns immediately.

We love the building, but it is not enough if the foundation and quality experience is not right. School is not diverse and minority student population are looked over constantly. Representation matters and the staff are primarily whites. Parents really have to be prepared to advocate for their children. I would recommend more training and assessment on bias training for staff frequently - at least on a quarterly basis. Magnet schools have a realistic and positive experience for students. Since many of these schools are by lottery selection, keep focus on the needs of your children and lead the conversations to keep staff and superintendent/head members accountable. Ask for proof of these training and not rely on wording that it is being done. Stigmas needs to disappear especially from South Windsor, so that the gaps in school system will no longer impact the low ratios that you see with minority students and those with disabilities.
