VMS has changed and not for the better. Academics are subpar. Graduates don’t matriculate to major colleges. VMS has always been able to attract talented teachers because of location. However, with rising costs to live in ski towns they are loosing much of their best talent. The school has a systemic bullying problem. Small problems escalate and become big problems. A wealth gap within the school community drives the school into unequal factions. The wealthy parents push all agendas. They receive priority. Students whose parents are teachers also different treatment. Parents are allowed unchecked access to the school and classrooms at anytime. Volunteers are not required to have background checks, and the building is never properly secured. It’s not safe on the inside because of the bullying and open school access, and not safe on the outside because of a lack of any real security. Racism and classism are a problem here. The Mountain School needs HELP. It was once a great school and maybe can get back to its mission .
