"I love living in DTLB. I like that everything is a short walk away, plenty of places to eat, things to do, events, and the beach is right there! Most places/restaurants are dog friendly. The downsides for me would definitely be lack of parking in most areas and the unhoused/transient folks sometimes is out of control in some parts. But those things are expected in the downtown area. "it use to be safe and fun with the seasonal events happening. In 2022, petty crime and random shooting (no hit) and the rise of high crime, businesses having their doors/windows smashed, is sad. I'm glad to finally leave in July."

"There is an Art Walk every second Sunday. I live in the Art district so there are paintings displayed everywhere. A lot of restaurants and a walk to the grocery store. Unique small businesses. I am 4 blocks away from the beach, pike outlet, Long Beach convention center, and shoreline village. A lot of tourists in the area. The train is a block away. "

"Easy access to 710 and 110 fwys. Metro runs through the heart of DTLB. I commute to Beverly Hills, which is awful with traffic. Traveling more than 10 miles to work is a nightmare depending on the destination "

"The commute is okay. It typically takes me about 15-20 minutes to get to the 405 from where I live, and another 30-40 from there to get to Orange County."

"Can be nice, but a lot of homeless people. Although they aren’t aggressive, some have the tendency to flash or be sprawled out across the side walks "

"In my neighborhood or area, I can walk to downtown Long Beach and there are always events or things going on. Even farmer markets on certain days of the month. Or music events also on certain days of the month. And everything is usually walking distance or if not, a quick and inexpensive Uber or Lyft ride to the events. "

"This isn’t exactly a kid friendly neighborhood since there are a lot of apartments and a busy street with many cars passing by. Also a lot of stray cats. Not sure how close by the local schools are to my complex. "

"I've lived here for 3 years now. Neighbors are friendly, dog-friendly town, cool restaurants are within walking distance. There's always something to do especially on the weekends! So dynamic and alive, yet chill cause I'm steps away from the beach."

"There aren’t any close parks by, it’s very annoying because the dog parks are a drive away. Also there’s mostly pavement so the doggos have to walk on the hard floor. "

"Nothing. No one goes outside. Too boring. Neighbors either smoke or drink. All the parks are filled with dirty people and homeless and or just feels dirty. We stay inside. Watch tv. Or travel all the way to San Diego just to do something fun. Kdb is gone and so is Walmart. I’m moving out of California this time next year. Already secured location. "

"Constantly see people walking dogs, the only down side is the amount of trash left on the floor for furry friends to get into. "

NAGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageEver heard the phrase "you don't know a good thing until it's gone"? Well, I knew Montessori on Elm was a good thing when I had it and I missed it even more when I moved out of the state and it was gone . . .My son attended school here from 6 months to 21 months and not only did he have a great time in the program, I had a great time watching him grow through the program! The teachers and directors were like an extension of our little family - they knew he and I by name, greeted us warmly every morning and hugged him goodbye every afternoon. I never felt uncomfortable with leaving him as I knew that each person in the school genuinely cared about him. Not all Montessori schools are created equal and this school is definitely one of the few that actually focuses on Montessori practices and the Montessori style of learning/developing. I saw this right away when he was in the toddler program - his practical life skills were evident daily within our home; while the focus on his social, emotional, and physical development was also very clear. Additionally, I loved the flexibility of the infant program - they allow the babies to be on a schedule that works best for them, rather than having set feeding times and sleeping times. Each time I see him throw something away in the trash or push in his chair or use sign langue when saying a color name, I know that Montessori on Elm helped in the development of these skills. And even today (over a month since we have left) he will still ask for some of his little friends by name. All of these let me know that his time there had a lasting impression on him (even at his young age) in more ways than he will ever know.Parent Review10y ago4 Reviews - St. Anthony Elementary School

NAGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI hadn't noticed St. Anthony's previously to be honest, even though it's a large beautiful historic church right across from MOLAA. We attend another church and had never considered sending our child to Catholic school before. However, when we didn't get any school of choice options in Long Beach, our God-send of a neighbor found St. Anthony's. I asked for a tour, and the principal herself, Ms. Kargas, responded to my email quickly and welcomed the chance to give us a tour of the school. She is very kind and on the ball. I immediately loved the smaller class sizes. I then met the seasoned kindergarten teacher and was sold! Her class is well organized and each child receives their own iPad for in-class use. The kids have music, Spanish and P.E. classes throughout the week, in addition to one short mass each week. Hot lunch is also available. Also, the whole schoo--including Kindergarten--is a full-day program, which is very attractive for working families. And the cost of tuition is what we were paying for half-day preschool! I'm so thankful we found this school family. I know our daughter is safe and well cared for, while receiving a quality education.Parent Review7y ago7 Reviews
