7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageNo support for teachers. Asks to teach courses that require specialized training without providing training. Administration uses the unfair evaluation system to separate teachers they don't like even though those teachers performed above and beyond to produce impressive test scores. There is no parking available for teachers. 30 students in a classroom that can accommodate 20 max. No instructional support for special education students.Teacher Review4mo ago11 Reviews - Deal Middle School

9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe are leaving Janney and a large number of families of children above grade 2 are, as well. Principal Danielle Singh has created a culture of no accountability, including allowing an abusive teacher to continue teaching after three years of bad behavior (including refusing to allow students to receive accommodations and services as required by law). Staff and families find her non-responsive, afraid of conflict to the point of inaction, and focused only on optics and her own personal goals. Several of our best teachers are leaving or planning to leave, as well. Families who have younger children at Janney as well as older children who went to Janney before the principal changed speak regularly to how different it is now under Singh. The community and PTA are wonderful, and lower grade teachers are generally better regarded than upper grade teachers. Special education students, in particular, are considered a burden and the staff routinely pass the buck when working with them.Other Review11mo ago10 Reviews - Check out schools near Upton St NW.

"There’s access to public transportation. It’s a good 15-20 minutes walk to the Metro. Only a couple of blocks to the bus stop. It takes about 45 minutes to commute to work downtown from here. "

"A high-end town in NW DC, Cathedral Heights offers mini shopping areas and restaurants, the wonderful youth of American University, and of course, the National Cathedral. Smaller churches lie blocks from eachother, scattered throughout the neighborhoods. The people are friendly and children are seen everywhere. There is plenty of foliage, where woodland creatures can be seen scurrying or prancing. For the most part this area can sustain itself, with smaller commerce, businesses, even [Homeland Security], all in its vicinity. I see no reason to leave. "

"American University Park (aka Tenleytown) is one of the loveliest neighborhoods in Washington, DC. It is a quiet, leafy, family-oriented community near excellent transportation and restaurants. Lots tend to be large and well-tended. For all these reasons, homes tend to sell very fast."

"After living in a rural area, I came back to DC to live with and help my elderly parent. I thought I would hate DC and this neighborhood for all the typical reasons, like it's crowded, dirty, polluted, noisy. I found, surprisingly, that I love living here and this particular building is fantastic. The neighborhood is safe, has great schools, it's walking distance to shops, nightlife, AU and Metrorail, or you can take a bus, the traffic moves well (except at the height of rush hour), it's very clean, there's parking on the street and around this building, there's a park down the street and you can hike all the way to the Potomac, it's not far from the museums and Kennedy Center (I've ridden a bike and taken Metro), it's almost in Georgetown but without the high prices, smallish dogs are allowed, it's close to the C&O Canal and Capital Crescent Trail----well, this is as good as city living gets. I thought I would be pining for my former rural life but no---this is a great building in an excellent and affordable building, in a super city."
