"New London NH is an upscale community with immense resources for all ages. It has weathered the housing crash much better than most New England communities, the result of the varied economic base and its proximity to both Hanover, Manchester/Concord and Boston. One of the town's anchors is Colby Sawyer College, which lends a cultural and youthful flavor to the town. As well, it has excellent schools and a significant number of retired housing areas. The town's tax base is aided significantly by numerous multi-million dollar properties on Lake Sunapee, Little Sunapee, Murray Pond and and Pleasant Lake, which helps to maintain the tax base evenly distributed. The New London Council on the Aged has numerous activities for the above 50 and retired crowd, leading to additional opportunities. Plenty of lakeside beaches, hiking, skiing in nearby Mount Sunapee, boating, kayaking and all outdoor activities. And the Barns Playhouse is a magnet for cultural events. The downside to the town is twofold. First, it seems an anti-dog lobby has taken root in the town government, which doesn't seem to understand that almost 70% of the market they should be pursuing is the same market that has companion animals. Recently, a senseless restriction on dogs in a major town park was adopted, leading to significant divisions in the community. Second, the unavailability of mass transit is evident and other than in the immediate area of the town's center and its adjacent shopping center, a car is an absolute necessity. "

"very safe for raising kids. cultural offerings all around such as Colby Sawyer College, Dartmouth College and all the Boston events. Skiing is very big here. Sunapee resort is 15 min away-best snow and child program in NH. multiple lakes close by and a seacoast too. Hiking and camping very popular."
