8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy child was struggling with several subjects. After meeting with teachers about all of my concerns (struggles with homework, spelling and low self esteem, poor grades, among other issues) they had no suggestions or advice. I could see that he could easily have fallen through the cracks. I had him evaluated by a child development specialist and he was diagnosed with dysgraphia as well as ADD. They were very surprised that non of his teachers picked up on any hint of a possible problem. He was so miserable at the end of the year so I agreed to homeschool him, as I have experience working with and teaching children with special needs. We were also disappointed that the students only have P.E. once a week and no Art.Parent Review6y ago4 Reviews - Fernandina Beach High School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageIf your student is high achieving and can get in to the very limited AP options you will be fine. Students that get tracked into the general Ed classes are faced with classes that don't have access to books, "discussion based" math classes, and will likely never see a guidance counselor through their school career. The career focused classes like electricity and aerospace do not have access to the computer programs they need to be able to teach their classes, there is little parent communication. The facilities are in ill repair.Parent Review3y ago12 Reviews - Check out schools near A1A Off.

"We travel here for months at a time for my husband’s job. We love it here. There is a reason that we keep coming back. It has a small town feel with an ocean. There’s plenty of places to eat. You could eat someone different every night for a while and still not run out of new places to try. Everything closes quite early which is an okay thing. Coming from a bigger city, my experience is that the later things stay open, the more trouble is made. I enjoy it here. Feels like a second home."

"I am a Florida Native. This area has one of the very best beaches, clean, safe, well thought through designs everywhere. There is something for everyone here, boating, fishing, sailing, luxury shopping, restaurants galore, arts and crafts, festivals, churches, hospital, specialty doctors/dentists, trails, Ft. Clinch State Park, Farmers Market, if you can dream it we have it! Leave only your footprints.... One mile to the beautiful Atlantic Ocean, a short walk or bike ride."

"Not enough public dog parks to let off of leash to play and socialize, have to be on leash on beaches so can’t run. "

"Very busy during work traffic times. Getting on and off the island is miserable. Traffic lights aren’t coordinated, long waiting times between lights. No real public transportation. Tough to travel around island unless weekend."

"I have lived here for 22 years, it is quiet, safe, well-lit and dog friendly. Many walkers, gardeners, and is a big quilt of folks bringing a variety of blends. It's centrally located, two blocks from the city and all the amenities you could dream of. You can stroll to the beautiful ocean, downtown historic district, shop, dine and play."

"Small, Beautiful place, not as close knit or friendly as in the past. Developers are building anything they can on postage size lots. Traffic is increasing fast and tempers are starting to show. I bought beautiful home 900 yards from the ocean, next to the Ritz Carlton and am considering moving away."

"Whole island especially downtown Fernandina is very dog friendly which is great for dogs and owners. Many shop owners provide treats daily for dogs. Dogs are usually allowed on leash on the beach, except during pandemic when everyone is prohibited from beach. "

"Nothing is great about this neighborhood. Parking is limited. Entrances to garage is through an alley and entering and exiting your garage is putting your vehicle at risk from trees which are not trimmed or maintained. Owners are responsible for cleaning the community sidewalks. Property sits right on top of the house next to you. Absolutely no privacy here at all. "
