8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe are thrilled with our experience at Buckman Elementary! The classes are less than 25, the teachers are engaged with family life and communicate daily. My daughter is coming home showing off her art, her songs, her dance moves. Well-rounded education with a focus on art, in a public school setting. Win win.Parent Review10mo ago15 Reviews - Hosford Middle School

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy daughter has been at Creston for almost 2 years and overall has had a very positive experience and feels a strong connection to the school. Middle school is a challenging age, and the staff and teachers generally do a very good job engaging the kids.Parent Review4mo ago15 Reviews - Cleveland High School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe moved from out of state to Portland and researched schools before we came. We chose Cleveland because of the choir program and theater program. The website boasted 3 plays a year, etc. It was a bait and switch. We got there and the theater teacher was suspended for mysterious reasons and no productions only a substitute teacher that knew nothing about theater. After being an excellent student all her life my daughter started to have problems with her work and started hanging out with a bad crowd (school does nothing about kids leaving the grounds). This school only cares about kids who do well without effort. We spoke to guidance counselor at the end of 9th because we were concerned with slipping grades and some skipped classes and she told us not to worry and recommended a private academic coach, who cost us $2000 and did not help! I literally begged the choir teacher to give my child extra encouragement because I knew if she quit singing that we would lose her. Teacher did nothing. Only interested in the stars of the class. To make a long story short, this school grossly failed my child. After I insisted on an IEP out of desperation, they were slightly interested - interested in getting her off of their books! They pushed us to go to the Community College program, which was not suited to her needs at all and she failed it. Covid hit. She never graduated. Thanks, Cleveland!!!There are some GREAT teachers at this school, and some not so great but still very compassionate. The vice-principal (the principal was a revolving door when we were there) and counseling staff are the worst! They actually assigned a counselor to my child that was the mother of the student that caused my child a lot of grief. Completely clueless. The neighborhood is pretty awful also, if you are unfamiliar with Portland look at the setting the school is in - near Cleveland lots of camps and drug use in the park across the street, and strip bars less than a block away. No healthy food restaurants anywhere. Do not send your impressionable sensitive child here!Parent Review3y ago13 Reviews - Check out schools near A.

"I like it, it feels fine during the day but kind of sketchy at night. there’s homeless people nearby and I make sure to keep an eye out when I’m walking to my car late at night. "

"Close to everything. People seem to take pride in the places and spaces they live in. This is one of those Portland neighborhoods that’s wonderful to aimlessly wander around "

"It’s a walkable area. It’s very green, with plenty of community gardens. It hardly feels like walking in a city"

"Great restaurants bars etc. tons of homeless people but you almost get used to it sadly. Street parking past 12th isn’t too bad"

"Nice cute businesses and dog park nearby. School down the road with soccer practice make it seek residential but still close to the city. "

"I've lived in this neigborhood for over 20 years, both my children went to Buckman an amazing art magnet primary school. People are friendly and it is a safe urban neighborhood. Plus now there are many great places to eat and shop."

"We’ve owned our home for 29 years, raised our 4 children, and now have 9 grandchildren who all went to Buckman school. The neighborhood is extremely walkable, close to freeway access in all directions if needed, neighbors are all friendly and willing to lend a helping hand, walking our pup is like happy hour for dogs, walk or ride s bike to downtown Portland, a multitude of restaurants, bars, bakeries, banks, post office, laurelhurst park, bike routes. I feel proud and fortunate to live in this neighborhood."

"It has a lot of beautiful homes and streets and trees. Used to be quirkier and now is pretty hip. Very safe. "

"I'm on a first name basis with the staff at our corner store, the checkers at our grocery store, and my favorite bartenders. There are still food carts and downtown is walking distance. Also, there's an abandoned hole in the ground nextdoor that's hopefully keeping the rent down."
