We love this school. My daughters both attend, one in 2nd grade and the other started Kinder. The teachers are amazing, the field studies wonderful. The academic rigor and project based approach is why we stay over our neighborhood school (which is also highly rated, but very large and traditional teaching methods). Everyone knows everyone in the school, and the community is so sweet. My daughters are bi-racial and feel very supported and the Diversity Group is great. In fact, I have seen way more bi-racial children in this school than my neighborhood school. Part of the reason we stay is because of how diverse the children are! The kids come from all socio economic levels and all seem to respond so well to the approach in student directed, project based learning. The project my kinder has on salmon this fall is outstanding, where they even dissected salmon in the classroom! The only cons are the high level of loitering in the area of Park Blocks. and the lack of extracurricular options after school. We go elsewhere for those. Also, I wish the school had more funding for the outstanding teachers and curriculum. Schools like this should be well funded and not ignored by PPS. A school like this should be a model for the other schools.
