8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageIf you’re interested in a Wolk environment, that places social issues above education, this is the place for you. It caters to the lowest common denominator at the expense of serious students. If you’re a self-starter and seriously motivated student, you might survive. It can offer a quality education, but those opportunities diminish year-by-year as political agenda takes hold. There is little to no repercussions for violent behavior.Parent Review1y ago - Emerson Elementary School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageEmerson is an excellent school. The kids all get art 1x per week, along with music (woodwinds, strings and brass are available in 4th grade), PE (2x per week) and science. The teachers are super experienced, and the school culture is very caring and kind.Parent Review11mo ago - Sylvia Mendez Elementary

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AveragePhenomenal school is every way. Diverse and welcome in learning community with high quality teachers in TK and K. My student has thrived here and I can’t wait to see what next school year brings. The after school staff really connected with my student and principal Hunt is a very dedicated. Don’t skip the potluck and movie nights as well as other school functions like back to school etc. they are so so worth it. Forgot to mention one of the best aspects, the specialists! My student has dance, garden, nutrition/ wellness, and art!Parent Review1y ago - Willard Middle School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI have two children currently enrolled in John Muir Elementary. We love this school. The curriculum is great, teachers are totally invested, experienced and excellent, and the principal is wonderful. The building and grounds are lovely. The after school offerings are varied and plentiful.Prior to attending John Muir, our children were in private school in SF. We feel our John Muir experience is on par, and indeed better than the private school experience -- we're getting a top notch education and NOT paying ~$40K/year for it. The community is lovely as well. Many parents participate in events and volunteer often.Parent Review1y ago - Check out schools near Mosswood Rd.

"Lots of students in the area because of the proximity to UC Berkeley. Its also a very political area, marches and cops and helicopters are not uncommon in response to the political climate. "

"I lived in this neighborhood for 3 years. Since it's just south of the UC Berkeley campus, there is a lot of foot traffic and noise when school is in session. Mostly students live in this neighborhood but there are a ton of homeless people lying on the sidewalks and they can get pretty aggressive. Plenty of cheap restaurants catering to students as well."

"Great walkable neighborhood with lovely historical homes. Very diverse community."

"Berkeley has high property taxes with the outcome of good public services and excellent schools. This part of south Berkeley is bicycle friendly with great grocery stores (perhaps the best options in the State!) plus neighbors who walk and know each other. A very enjoyable & diverse neighborhood."

"A perfect 10-15 minute walk to the Cal Campus or the upscale, but delicious Elmwood area. Animal friendly neighborhood, with a fairly strong neighborhood association. The Julia Morgan Theater and Benvenue Public Library as well as excellent schools are just some of the treasures of this area."
