During my time working at this school, I witnessed deeply concerning and inappropriate treatment of bilingual students. I observed situations that could cause emotional and mental injury to children who were between 10 and 11 years old. There were instances of inappropriate verbal comments, as well as racial and discriminatory remarks directed at students simply because they were bilingual, had limited English proficiency or had a learning disability. These behaviors were troubling because every child deserves a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment. No wonder why so many young students grow up disliking school. Working in this environment also made me question why the previous teacher had left. I reported my concerns to the district, but unfortunately, nothing was done. This school also has a long history of this type of treatment toward bilingual students. The way students were treated was extremely concerning and deserved serious attention.
