If your child has no special needs, perhaps a good school. If they have any special needs, the staff turnover is very high,, often unable to provide an experienced and trained specialist. We’ve had exceptional Gen Ed teachers, and average Gen Ed teachers. We’ve had so many special Ed teachers, they don’t stay and high turnover is connected to poorly run department. Testing is based too heavily on standardized test scores and not assessment data for creating IEP goals. Parent input is often ignored. Special education at this school ranks a 1.

As a current student, this school is the last place I would send my child. The administration and teachers all have the maturity of a 15 year old girl, and serve only to propel their favorite students while punishing or otherwise putting hardship onto other students. In my experience, most teachers here only care for their own paycheck and social circle; If you aren’t in their little club, you aren’t going to succeed. This is true also with administration and coaching. Even the students here operate the same way. There is a claimed sense of “community” due to the size of the school, but only if you’re a rich family who is deemed popular. As someone not in this situation, my experience has been dismal. Teachers, coaches, and students treat you as a joke and offer little support in the long run.That’s not to say there isn’t any positive here. I feel our special education program has improved drastically and some teachers here are actually great, but the majority of the school does not offer a pleasant experience.This might be a bit nit-picky, but the size of the school is suffocating, at least personally. There are only 130 high school students currently, which causes sports rosters to be nearly empty and personal struggles or really anything you want to yourself impossible to keep private. Though most likely true with any school, information echoes here, so if you aren’t a 4.0 GPA honors student from a rich lake family, you’re out of luck. The grade system and curriculum are very college-heavy, with 7 available AP courses and Dual-Enrollment college courses offered. Our guidance counselor does a fair job diversifying our options as students but with such a college-heavy culture it’s hard to find anything else. Our normal classes are also much harder than other schools (I’ve talked to other students from surrounding schools) and our grading system is less forgiving, forcing you to work much harder than necessary while still developing as a person (this school leaves little room for your personal life.)If you are the type of student/ family who does want to apply yourself rigorously and think you fit into their club, Sunapee is a great fit, but if you want a more traditional and enjoyable high school experience, choose anywhere else.

I strongly recommend against sending your children to this school. They have next to no bullying g policy, to the point that members of the staff are typically bullied themselves. They provide nearly no support for the arts and the staff show clear favoritism. The best thing that happened to me at this school was leaving it
