I teach at this school, so I am obviously biased. With that up front, I will say that we have a wonderful group of students and staff who make each day a pleasure. Our principal sets a positive energy tone and our students respond so well. McDowell has some special attractions that you may wish to know about. Each student receives PE from a PE specialist each week. There are weekly music classes from dedicated music instructors. Our Spanish language classes, taught by Maestra Hancock, provide academic Spanish for all students twice a week. McDowell's Family Resource Center is just that...a wonderful source of help for all of our families. Other features of our school include before school day care and after school programs offered by the Boys and Girls Club, intervention and enrichment classes after school, frequent field trips to engaging environmental and cultural destinations, and more. I could say more, but best to come visit if you are interested in placing your student into a school in Petaluma. You won't be disappointed. Enseño en esta escuela, así que obviamente soy parcial. Daughter felt uncomfortable, as a person of color she was discriminated and made fun of.. she was not being supported throughout her high school journey

I don't recommend this school to anyone. I had okay-ish grades, but the teachers were rude, and the students were bullies. I have been pushed, shoved, verbally abused, and jumped before at the school. I even told a staff member that I was being followed by a group of kids trying to jump me and they told me "Just go to class your fine." I have been down on the blacktop and witnessed a fight happen and after the staff member got them off each other he just walked away. This is so disappointing for me as a student to not feel safe in my own school. I will not be returning and will make sure to tell people about this experience that I will never forget. I had to change my number from all of the hate calls I was getting. I fear walking alone in petaluma because of the kids. The fact that when I told teachers and staff no one bothered to help is so sad.
