"Just moved here this year. It’s on the boarder of good and bad. Quiet most times but can be very loud due to ambulances and outside noise"
  • Trulia User
"This is a family neighborhood, and I feel safe here. Some streets need to be lit a little more but overall I love the area. I have a friend whose niece goes to the university in the area and she feels safe a secure enough to run to the restaurants in the evenings. "
  • Deanna W.
"Easy access to buses & trains to all parts of NJ & NYC within 5 min. of Ivy Hill section. Bus or drive to NYC is 40-60 min. 30- 35 min. NJTransit train ride from South Orange & Maplewood train stations 6 min. away to NYC or even faster on Amtrak. We’re about half hr from Newark Penn Station. 5 -10 min. from various highways incl. NJ Turnpike/95, Parkway, & routes 280 & 76. 20 min. from shopping centers on rt. 10 & 22."
  • Deanna W.
"Services of Unified Vailsburg Services Organization, the Ivy Hill Neighborhood Association, Sanford Pl. & Friends non-profit block association & more help enlighten & unify some in the community, provide community education & entertainment opportunities such as block parties, annual festival, trips, paint & sips, neighborhood police & government updates & links, & online education events. "
  • Deanna W.
"Fabulous place for dogs b/c doggie park enabling them to socialize with their own kind (1 for large, 1 for small dogs), is just 10 min. away where there are also wooded trails & walkways for them in South Mountain Reservation + a beautiful walking trail around waterfront at South Mt. Recreation Center. They can even be featured in an annual Halloween Doggie Parade there. Millburn Petsmart is 15 min. away & other groomers within 10 min. I don’t know anything about the rest but at least in Ivy Hill area of Upper Vailsburg where I’ve lived a couple of decades, most people walk their dogs leashed & clean up behind them. Nearest of numerous parks to walk them in are 5 min. walks to 5 min. drive away. The neighborhoods are quiet & peaceful for the most part."
  • Deanna W.
"It’s very quiet, quaint, & near ALL you may want & need, from train & bus to NYC, gyms, grocery stores for all income levels, fast food - fine dining, entertainment, sports fields, & # of parks all within 5 min. to South Mountain Reservation 10 min away w/its beautiful wooded scenic views, walking trails, dog parks, & waterfalls to its lovely waterfront, skating, zip lining, & more at its Recreation Ctr. 5 min. further & w/n 20 min of all levels of shopping & entertainment & 40-60 min. drive to NYC, beaches, casinos, & the Poconos! 🎁❤️🎉"
  • Trulia User

  • Trulia User
"There aren’t any events in my neighborhood I’ve lived in my neighborhood since 2001-2022 we did have 1block party that had no participation there was no flyers given before the day it was supposed to take place. It was no participation "
  • Trulia User
"My neighborhood doesn’t have anything I’ve lived here for 23 yrs and it’s never been any cookouts, Halloween party, neighborhood meet/greet I only know 2 neighbors since I’ve lived on my block"
  • Trulia User
"Commute is not bad because there is access to public transportation and Ubers. Walking distance is feasible, but not so safe as in any where. Just can’t let down your guard."
  • Trulia User
"Easy access to the major highways all around me. They are repaving all the side streets leading out of the neighborhood is a nice touch. "
  • Trulia User
" School close by and the bus pickup is right next door. The park is safe during the day but should be avoided at night"
  • Rosalind M.
"You have to go the distance for dogs to run and play. Majority of dog owners clean up after there dogs"
  • Rosalind M.
"There are many families in this neighborhood it is close to the major towns and convenient shopping areas."
  • Alexis A.
"No events, i like it quiet. The park is beautiful and close, the parkway is close as well as Wawa. These are things that mk me happy. None, quiet makes it special "

"A good number of people have dogs in my neighborhood and there is a park nearby. There is a grocery store nearby as well."
  • Karynjean32
"Barbecues are done here pretty often and everyone is pretty friendly and makes you forget the bad stereotype of Newark"
  • Rrr4733
"There is a good mix of incomes and cultures. It is very easy to see how the neighborhood is changing because houses on some streets have beautifully manicured lawns and other streets have unkempt yards and abandoned houses. There are many houses being renovated and seems to be an influx of people who wish to improve the neighborhood "
  • Lady T.
"Easy access to the highways for my commute to work. It’s only a 15min drive. The local train station is only 10 mins away. "
  • Pearly E.
"It is safe here. I don’t hear gun shots. No one is out late. Walgreens is near. Three different buses at ivy hill loop. It is close to Irvington and South Orange. As well as East Orange. "
  • Sexxy_badd
"It’s quiet and and conveniently located to all of my everyday necessities like groceries and shopping "
  • Andre E.
"I lived in this neighborhood for over ten years and it’s a very nice place to live they have lots of restaurants places to shop etc "
  • O. F.
"I’ve noticed that some owners don’t pick up after their dogs when they do the sidewalk walks. Ivy Hill Park is close by and seems better for walking a dog."
  • Smith.aimie
"I've lived in this neighborhood for 22 years. My neighborhood is very diverse. In the neighborhood school they speak 27 different languages."
  • Shaneel M.

  • Danidee
"Coveinence traveling via foot, bus and train. Benefits of local shopping areas close to home. Very heavily populated neighborhoods for families that do not favor isolated towns and / or communities. "
  • Ekhaguere
"We have a lot of predators in our area. It doesn’t matter where you live, it everywhere, we as parents have pray and be vigilant and educate our children."
  • Alvaro
"South Orange - Tuxedo Park - Is a great place for young families. Great first home for us. Taxes could use a review, however."
