"We have a large community of horse owners. Lots of unemployed former textile workers - and beautiful hill country and a large population of retirees. Low traffic. "
  • Barbara C.
"It’s a country small town. Little transport but also very little traffic. Easy to drive around. A variety of hone styles and sizes - some farms near some relaxed neighborhoods. "
  • Dan
"Nearly everyone around here has animals. You see people walking their dogs all the time. Dogs are always welcome in most establishments. "
  • Dan
"The community has events on all the holidays: Christmas, New Years, Easter, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving. "
  • Barbara C.
"You must have a car to live in the foothills. Public transport is minimal at best and expensive - and relatively infrequent. "
  • b Clarke
"It’s a horse community with lovely mountains and little shops and winding roads. It’s quite full of retirees and equally populated by lifetime residents. It does not take long to feel at home. "
  • Dan
"I don’t commute anywhere. I work at home. People need a car to get around here. I use to work 30 miles away. "
  • Jbaclarke
"This is a semi-rural area. Most homes are outside the city limits and are an acre or more. Many homes are mobile homes and the rest of one story single family dwellings. As such, most homeowners are not considered part of a community - and tend to celebrate or socialize with friends either from church or from the local horse community. "
  • Maryhurleylee
"it's beauty is outstanding nestled in the foothills of the blue Ridge Mountains, Charming and quaint! "
  • Lane R.
"Beautiful area with lots of horse farms and vintage Tryon homes. Close to town yet you feel as if you are very far away. Many homes have mountain views with ample acreage with pastures and wooded settings. I like the area so much I own a rental property in the area. I consider very desirable location."
  • Wcumming
"Tryon is a quiet, friendly town with low crime and great community involvement. Vibrant downtown, good local shops and services and within 25 miles of three large cities for shopping and entertainment."
  • Amy P.
"Amazing schools. As a foreign service family we move often and send our kids to many schools. Polk county ranks at the top for us. Both kids are thriving here academically and socially. The town is safe and clean and our kids enjoy a level of freedom and independence unheard of these days. We love it. "
  • johnh
"Lived in tryon for some time. I moved back north. Not a very friendly community. Best if you have strong ties here. People originally from around this area feel as if people moving here is not good for them. Poor economy. Businesses constantly failing. And it is true there is an alcohol problem as many people are bored and unhappy in tryon especially people under 50 or so. Not a good place for children. This town should also be red flagged as a gang stalking community. Ideal for retirees who don't go out much."
