About this House

Set on 2.15 acres within the Town of Tryon, this 1921 bungalow offers a rare combination of acreage, walkability to downtown, and future trail connectivity, all with no HOA.

The home features 4 bedrooms and 2 baths across 1,671 total square feet, with 1,009 square feet on the main level and 662 square feet upstairs. Originally the home of a well-known Tryon toy maker, the property reflects the area’s artisan heritage through distinctive wood craftsmanship, including the hand-built staircase, oversized baseboards, and original hardwood floors. Abundant natural light enhances the inviting living spaces, while the flexible floor plan allows for a variety of uses, including guest accommodations or a home office.

The kitchen blends vintage character with everyday functionality, featuring glass-front cabinetry, ample counter space, a double sink, and a stainless steel refrigerator and dishwasher.

Outdoor living spaces are a highlight of the property. Enjoy a covered front porch and a flagstone patio bordered by a river rock wall, with stone steps leading up to the street. A spacious three-season room spans the back of the home, overlooking the yard and wooded setting and providing additional space for relaxing or entertaining. The property offers ample parking and a peaceful setting.

Located in the Polk County School District, the home is walkable to downtown Tryon shops, theatres, galleries, dining, and is positioned to adjoin the planned Saluda Grade Trail corridor, which is expected to connect Inman, South Carolina, to Zirconia, North Carolina. This future trail access adds long-term appeal for those seeking proximity to hiking, biking, and regional outdoor recreation.

Offered at $375,000, this 4-bedroom Tryon property combines historic character, usable acreage, downtown convenience, and trail-oriented potential in a sought-after Western North Carolina setting.

  • Barbara C.
"We have a large community of horse owners. Lots of unemployed former textile workers - and beautiful hill country and a large population of retirees. Low traffic. "
  • Barbara C.
"It’s a country small town. Little transport but also very little traffic. Easy to drive around. A variety of hone styles and sizes - some farms near some relaxed neighborhoods. "
  • Dan
"Nearly everyone around here has animals. You see people walking their dogs all the time. Dogs are always welcome in most establishments. "
  • Dan
"The community has events on all the holidays: Christmas, New Years, Easter, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving. "
  • Barbara C.
"You must have a car to live in the foothills. Public transport is minimal at best and expensive - and relatively infrequent. "
  • b Clarke
"It’s a horse community with lovely mountains and little shops and winding roads. It’s quite full of retirees and equally populated by lifetime residents. It does not take long to feel at home. "
  • Dan
"I don’t commute anywhere. I work at home. People need a car to get around here. I use to work 30 miles away. "
  • Jbaclarke
"This is a semi-rural area. Most homes are outside the city limits and are an acre or more. Many homes are mobile homes and the rest of one story single family dwellings. As such, most homeowners are not considered part of a community - and tend to celebrate or socialize with friends either from church or from the local horse community. "
  • Maryhurleylee
"it's beauty is outstanding nestled in the foothills of the blue Ridge Mountains, Charming and quaint! "
  • Lane R.
"Beautiful area with lots of horse farms and vintage Tryon homes. Close to town yet you feel as if you are very far away. Many homes have mountain views with ample acreage with pastures and wooded settings. I like the area so much I own a rental property in the area. I consider very desirable location."
  • Wcumming
"Tryon is a quiet, friendly town with low crime and great community involvement. Vibrant downtown, good local shops and services and within 25 miles of three large cities for shopping and entertainment."
  • Amy P.
"Amazing schools. As a foreign service family we move often and send our kids to many schools. Polk county ranks at the top for us. Both kids are thriving here academically and socially. The town is safe and clean and our kids enjoy a level of freedom and independence unheard of these days. We love it. "
  • johnh
"Lived in tryon for some time. I moved back north. Not a very friendly community. Best if you have strong ties here. People originally from around this area feel as if people moving here is not good for them. Poor economy. Businesses constantly failing. And it is true there is an alcohol problem as many people are bored and unhappy in tryon especially people under 50 or so. Not a good place for children. This town should also be red flagged as a gang stalking community. Ideal for retirees who don't go out much."
