Description
Great opportunity to rent the basement 1-bd apartment in a lovely rowhouse in central Columbia Heights! Available after June 6th (flexible). Place is unfurnished, although tenant may leave some furniture. Year-long lease preferred.
ROOM LOCATION, RENT: This is an unfurnished 1bd, 1 bath basement in a 3-level Columbia Heights rowhouse at Sherman + Harvard (approx). Separate entrance, your own kitchen + bathroom. Rent is $1200 (one person) plus utilities; first months' rent and deposit are needed to lock down the place. Utilities are split 4 ways with the 3 folks upstairs; cost of utilities includes water, gas, electricity, wifi and monthly garden upkeep. Utilities usually run about ~$100 each month. Small pets are WELCOME, although on a case by case basis. (Any pet-related damage or cleaning will come out of the deposit.)
ABOUT THE ROOM: It's a pretty bright, newly-renovated basement apartment that is approx ~750 sq ft with a 1 bedroom layout + separate side entrance. You have your own bedroom, own bathroom, own living area, and own kitchenette. The kitchenette has a good sized fridge, gas stove, garbage disposal, and your bathroom is sizeable. Bedroom pictured with a Queen-sized bed. The entire unit will be freshly painted by the time you move in.
DOWNSIDES/DISCLAIMERS: Any downsides? Yes: (1) the house washer/dryer are in the basement, which means the lovely folks upstairs will go through your living room (NOT bedroom) to use the washer + dryer. The disruption on your daily life is minimal, if any -- everyone usually coordinates days + times that are convenient via group text; (2) while this area is pretty spacious, it's still a basement -- so keep in mind the low(er) ceilings!
Will put you in touch with current tenant and upstairs roommates.
ABOUT THE HOUSE: 3-level home in central Columbia Heights. The main level has an expansive kitchen + dining room + living area, with a door to the back multi-level deck with BBQ + fire-pit. The 3 bedrooms + 2 bathrooms are all on the second floor. There's also a gorgeous roof deck from which you can see the Washington Monument and July 4th fireworks. For anyone with a green thumb, there's a great gardening area in the front yard that has southern exposure -- we've grown kale, tomatoes, beans, squash, etc to great success. Central A/C and heating. Laundry in the house, downstairs in the basement. (See above note.)
ABOUT YOUR HOUSEMATES UPSTAIRS: The tenants upstairs are folks in their early/mid- 20s who are a collection of young professionals and/or students. Everyone takes care of the house like it's a home. Everyone gets along as a household, all are considerate about living together + sharing the space -- and that's important for you to share. Roommates are courteous in giving a heads up when they are having people over for social dinner/drinks, folks are out of the house at a reasonable hour (~10pm), and everything is cleaned before heading to bed. If someone is hosting something that will go into the evening hours, you'll get notice ahead of time in case it conflicts with an exam/early next morning. Everyone is super considerate of others + the shared space.
ABOUT YOU: Ideal tenant will be someone who can easily fit in with a no-fuss, no-drama environment. Room is perfect for a student/young professional who wants to be at the center of things and near lots of public transportation options, but likes a quieter, residential vibe. Personality-wise, you must be easy going, CLEAN, considerate, good at communicating + must play well with others. No raging parties, loud music into the night, etc. If you own a car, street parking is fairly easy to find. No smoking (inside). Pets ok, but on a case-by-case basis.
When you email, PLEASE SHARE SOMETHING ABOUT YOURSELF. Living habits, will it bother you if roomies upstairs host a Friday 8pm dinner, do you play well with others, etc. It is important that you treat the house well, be good about communication, live well with others, etc. :)
