"I lived here for a long time and it’s good neighborhood now then it was before. Sometimes change is for the better "
  • dmadrid
"Lots of stop signs but central to lots of different freeways. Can’t complain! West side is hard to get to, however "
  • dmadrid
"There are at least 2 parks and a dozen coffee shops within walking distance of our home. Great for weekends!"
  • dmadrid
"There are lots of kids of all ages, the parks are well maintained and the coffee shops can’t be beat!"
  • Gary Goodrich
"New families with children and dogs. Great restaurants. Fun place with great energy. Feels safe to walk most areas. New businesses opening up regularly. "
  • Imelda Arboleda
"If you’re a highland park native then you know we are surrounded by 2 gangs it used to be 3. Dont be too freely into thinking you can do what you want and talk crazy to anyone here because it doesnt end up nice. Shootings still occur even if its gentrified enough. Be cautious, be alert and mind your business."
  • Hannah Gutierrez
"Residents are very supportive of schools in the neighborhoods when it comes to fundraising, food insecurity, parades, etc"
  • Lisa Husmann
"Super chill neighborhood. Safe and quiet. Parks, groceries and resteraunts are all within walking distance. "
  • Alicia Valtierra
"Highland park is a mix of retro and modern. Lots of cute fun bars and restaurants. Some tailored to OG locals and some tailored to new hipsters. Overall a great feel. Lots of good food. Mostly quiet even with the bars. "
  • Trulia User
"There are 2 dog parks and dog friendly shops. Popping fireworks during holidays are popular here. May scare the dogs but very beautiful views. "
  • Trulia User
"Pleasant family and pup friendly neighborhood, good eats and easy access, short drives to neighboring towns in LA/SGV area. "
  • Trulia User
"I like it here. My dog likes it here. My friends like it here. My visiting family liked it here. There are some delicious places to eat."
  • Trulia User
"Very safe neighborhood. Close and convenient to many locations. Would recommend for anyone. Many families in neighborhood."
  • Trulia User
"Illegal fireworks set off by residents for May, June and July make the gunshots less noticeable. Great farmers market every Tuesday afternoon. "
  • Trulia User
"Love it, everyone has a dog and most are friendly. People understand occasional barking or crying. It’s lovely. "
  • Larinmarcy
"I lot of bars and restaurants in the area. Everything close together. Nice big park and dog parks near by. Rent is not too expensive. A lot of trees around the area. Feels very comfortable. You can walk to bars and restaurants too. "
  • Laura H.
"Highland park art walk is cool and there is always a lot going on at parks for families. Also the farmers market on Tuesdays"
  • Guadalupe G.
"Walkable neighborhood. Many restaurants and markets within short distance. Fun neighborhood very family friendly; many things to do here."
  • Pascale B.
"The school system needs to improve a bit ...mixing the different background, socioeconomic is important. It will change in few years . "
  • Emily A.
"It has less congestion than the west side during the day especially rush hour. Therefore I tend to stay in this neighborhood and continue to make it feel more like home. "
  • Emily A.
"There are pockets of unsafe areas that are somewhat easy to spot. Other than those areas you’ll be safe. "
  • Alejandra V. B.
"The anual parades, Christmas and car shows, the farmers markets. Annual music events. Need to have a 4th of July fireworks show"
  • Crystal F.
"There are sidewalks. However, many dog owners leave their dogs in their front fenced yards which leaves them overly aggressive & can be quite uncomfortable when walking your dogs, especially if you have small dogs and a huge aggressive pit bull tries to jump through their fence. I see why the neighborhood has received the nickname “Highland Bark.” While this treatment of dogs is inhumane, it also lends to an uncomfortable stroll with your furry friends. In addition, apparently “illegal” doesn’t seem to apply to fireworks in this neighborhood. They’re pretty much a year round event here and several months leading into July you’ll hear nightly fireworks which traumatize most dogs. Just being real. This isn’t an ideal dog neighborhood unless you don’t care about your dog. "
  • Benny16mm
"I’ve lived here for 6yrs, and out of all the 3 other areas in LA I’ve lived. This place feels the most like a community."
  • Tracy P.
"Several young families in the neighborhood, ranging in socioeconomic backgrounds. Kids are often heard and seen playing in their yards. Sometimes there is sidewalk chalk art."
  • Katherine F.
"Easy enough. Small, old streets and lots of pedestrians so it’s important to drive slow. It’s mostly residential and very hilly so everything takes a bit of time. "
  • Erica R.
"People don’t pick up after their dogs and it’s upsetting as it’s such a great neighborhood. Some people have their dogs sleep outside which you can hear barking. "
  • Katherine K.
"The local artists’ events are what really make it special...from No WiFi at the Hi Hat or mariachi music at the first Friday art fair. It’s especially fun when the Bob Baker puppeteers bring their marionettes across the street to the park for the kids to enjoy."
  • Cindy W.
"It is pretty easy to get around because of easy access to several freeways. Getting to surrounding areas is easy too, traffic is never too heavy."
  • Sandy M.
"We love our city of Highland Park, location is best to everything. If you need Downtown 10 minutes, next to Pasadena, Glendale. You want Beaches 30 minute drive. Thinking mountains for skiing, 1 hour away. This is the best location close to everything!"
  • Tracy P.
"I work in Pasadena and live in the Garvanza area of HP. I primarily drive, but have walked to the Gold Line stop (about 1 mile from where I live) to work and biked. My husband sometimes works downtown. His commute is 40 min during rush hour, 20-25 outside of rush hour."
  • Meghan
"It’s a great place to walk your dog ~ there is level ground and easily walk to shops and take your dog on a stroll!"
  • Collin C.
"A charming neighborhood feel with a diversity of people, restaurants, bars, music venues, and shops. Highly walkable. You could potential do all your errands on foot. A private residential feel with amazing commercial options. A low key vibrant vibe. "
  • Collin C.
"Lots of dog owners in the neighborhood. Some are more walked than others. There are old school guard dogs as well. "
  • Nhen44
"There are plenty of dog parks and local events for dogs. Many people walk their dogs and pick up after their pets. "
  • Lin J.
"There’s a lot of dog owners in the area, very walkable. But not everybody picks up after their dog. "
  • Mz4metoo
"Folks are friendly parking isn’t great we have street cleaning so it’s hard to find parking . Your centrally located . Stores are close by and there’s buses . Houses are too high it’s very expensive. "
  • Armando Rodriguez
"high crime tons of homeless parking is ridiculous to near impossible frequent gun fire close to stores restaurants busses metrorail freeway"
  • Andrew L. P.
"The people! The goodness and kind neighbors make this community! For, all any community ever really is is the people ... And here I am glad I see, know and meet awesome people everyday and it's welcoming!"
  • murph3640
"Lived here for 5 years. Great neighborhood. Close to everything in LA. Walkable to grocery stores, shops and nightlife. Diverse population. Great bars and restaurants. Good parks nearby. Love it. "
