Situated along the eastern edge of Encanto Park Golf Course, Encanto Vista is a narrow, roughly rectangular neighborhood one block from east to west and six blocks from north to south. The district encompasses a single residential subdivision platted in 1943. It is approximately 25 acres in size and contains 79 single family houses built between 1945 and 1959. The houses in Encanto Vista are predominately large custom-built Ranch Style houses.
When developers planned Encanto Vista, they zeroed in on a key selling point for the neighborhood: Encanto Golf Course. Decades later, that amenity is still a favorite among some residents. Encanto Vista is among the smaller historical neighborhoods in Phoenix, with about 80 homes shoehorned between Seventh Avenue and the golf course. When original landowner James W. Dorris sold the property in 1943, he decreed that the new owner build only a "high-class development," city records show. Indeed, the neighborhood's large lots and homes immediately attracted a Phoenix mayor, prominent architects, business leaders and others.
All but two homes out of the 68 properties are one-story high and average 1,900 square feet in size. Most homes have small front porches and maintain their original designs with few remodeling changes.
The streets were designed in a horseshoe pattern that offers excellent views of the nearby Encanto Golf Course and expresses an upscale feel of the neighborhood. The land for Encanto Vista was platted in 1943, but the Hamman Lumber Company had to wait on construction until World War II was over. By 1949, builders completed 72 percent of homes.

    "I lived in this house for 4 years and it was a dream. Loved everything about it. It’s a safe neighborhood with great people. The walls are so thick so it’s very quiet. I worried when I moved in that there would be homeless or people walking down the streets (I can from LA) and it never happened. I would sit on the front porch for hours with my dog and it was just the best. Whoever gets this home (and closet!!) will love it. "
