Description

In a class by itself, this distinctive, custom home designed by J. Marion Gutenayer is not to be missed! Located in East Wilmette it is close to the beach, parks, transportation and the village center. An architectural masterpiece, two symmetrical, cylindrical shapes anchor a double height wall of windows with a bronze door making a dramatic entry. The first floor is light and airy, the two- story foyer is open to the second floor, lending an ethereal quality to the space. An open floor plan continues the vibe. The house also has a wonderfully practical layout. Form and function work together here. The cylinder on the south side contains a powder room with curved vanity, set well away from the living spaces, ensuring privacy. Also residing on this side of the house is a huge walk-in coat closet. Plenty of space for all your coats as well as your guests. Storage space in this home is enviable. In the north cylinder a beautiful, sculptural staircase gracefully curves upward. Its curved wood banister is made of bleached oak, as are the wood floors (set on the diagonal) and baseboards. A second staircase winds up by the family room space and matches the main staircase trim. The sophisticated architecture mimics the curves found in the exterior cylinders throughout the home. The fireplace brick is the same material as the exterior brick and again features the curved shape as does the hood over the range. The kitchen is large, featuring many cabinets, an island with E/I table space adjacent, a pass through to the dining room, a built-in desk area and a raised countertop for barstools to watch the chef at work. Appliances are stainless. The dining room has sliding doors leading to a balcony. The living room is on the front of the house and has beautiful light as well as a view of the wall of black mirrors that reflect nature and the sunsets from the two-story windows, outside as well as in! It is truly a contemporary masterpiece. The family room opens to all the rooms, including the kitchen area, and has a fireplace as well as views out through the generous-sized screen porch. A large mudroom/pantry with sink has access to the 2 -car ATTACHED garage on one side and the carport on the other. A circle drive in front provides additional parking. From the screened porch you may walk out onto the deck with private, in ground spa. The zen-like back yard is surrounded by trees. The second floor has four very generous sized bedrooms each with large closets. The primary bedroom enjoys the southern sun exposure. A large deck accessed by sliding glass doors overlooks the yard and feels like a treehouse. It is perfect for sun bathing, reading a book, or perhaps viewing the moon after sneaking down unnoticed to the outdoor spa!! A fireplace with marble surround, and an enormous bathroom comprised of separate vanities, a large jacuzzi, separate shower and separated space for commode and bidet. Two, 7X10 separate closets with built-ins complete the suite. In the southern cylinder is an office with custom, circular cabinets. It enjoys privacy at the end of a hallway. There is also a sitting area with tv bracket here, and the laundry room is on this hallway as well. The lower level doesn't feel like a lower level. It is not included in the square footage. Large above- ground windows keep it light and bright. A large rec room, full bath, bedroom, walk-in cedar closet, an additional 2 closets as well as 2 mechanical rooms complete the space. This agent believes there is always another house. However, one like this doesn't come around every day. Don't miss it!!! Sold in an estate and sold AS-IS. 2022-08-05

"Family environment. Summer beach nights. Open spaces and parks. Amazing schools with good progression. "
  • Aaron Walter
"Lots of other dogs in the neighborhood. Most everyone cleans up after their pets. The sidewalks are great for long walks. Lots of open spaces to play."
  • Hyun Y.
"V affluent area with diversity. Great school system, safe and clean. Can’t complain. Very kids friendly"
  • Smithp78
"Easy to commute to downtown via Metra. Not always easy to find parking at Metra after 7:15. A lot of people walk. Possible to drive downtown but takes up to 90 minutes in morning rush. "
  • Shannon J.
"People are extremely welcoming and friendly. We moved here a few months ago, and have never felt so immediately at home in a community!"
  • Iltonz
"I see people walking their dogs all the time, and they seemed happy! There are great parks and green areas for dogs in general."
  • Cheryl
"Lots of responsible dog owners walking their dogs in this area. People pick up after their dogs. Xxxxxxxxx"

  • Jujujuice

  • Teresa
"Clean & wide sidewalks, many parks, fenced in dog beach plus another dog park. Many people own dogs & walk them several times a day. "
  • Zean N.
"It’s an amazing place to raise a family. Clean. Safe. Great schools. Close to the lake. Close to Chicago but far enough away to have a small town community feel. "
  • Miriam H
"Having a CTA station within a mile from our house makes the commute to Chicago doable. Depending on the day driving to and from the city during rush hour using Lakeshore or 94 is a hassle..."
  • Adroaras
"Certain parks are closed to dogs, but overall this is a dog friendly neighborhood. Also most of the parks have a poop bag station."
  • Satish Kumar
"very diverse demographics than past years! vibrant community, great facilities, amazing schools and school staff."
  • Teresa K.
"Great. All back roads to NU. never have to get on the free way. Only mild back UPS on Greenbay avenue during rush hour. There are lots of schools along the way which can slow you down due to buses and speed zones but that is the least of my worries "
  • Charles A.
"There are plenty of sidewalks and parks in the area. The only problem is there are no legal off leash parks within walking distance. "
  • Masahito J.
"Great schools, safe neighborhood, kids ride their bikes everywhere worry-free. Shops within walking distance. Great beach. Close to Chicago. "
  • Teresa K.
"very safe and very well maintained. prices are okay compared to our neighbors in Evanston. some neighborhoods, the houses all look the same but I enjoy the older neighborhoods where the homes have lots of old charm and character "
  • Keassouad
"Lake with beach, schools, access, community, restaurants, athletics, space to play transportation and character. "
  • Castle117
"I grew up here. Great forest preserve bike trails, the beach, pool clubhouse, and an excellent school district. "
  • cdtangney
"I have lived on and off in Wilmette for 30+ years. Grew up here. Eventually moved back here to raise my own family. Its one of the safest places in the country. The schools are excellent. The parks are beautiful, clean and have updated equipment. The Park District, With all that it has to offer for kids and adults, is incredible. The people are actively involved throughout the neighborhood. There are a few new dining and nightlife venues that are helping to make Wilmette all inclusive. Access to a great pool facility and one of the best beaches on the North shore just make it for this area. I highly recommend Wilmette to any young couple getting started, to anyone wanting to raise a family and to those looking to finish out their lives filled with quiet beauty in a safe place."
  • cg
"Have lived here for 10 years. The schools are superb and the people are like people anywhere. Some are nice and some are snotty but you can ignore them. Its great for the things that matter. Traffic getting into Chicago is usually bad but the Metra train is great."
  • conceptking
"Walking distance to everything - CTA, Metra, Parks, Beach, shopping in Wilmette and Evanston Central St. area. And a short drive to Sheridan Road/LSD and i-94.Phenomenal for families of all ages with nationally recognized and award winning schools. A fantastic and safe neighborhood and a hidden gem that borders Evanston. If there's a house that's within your budget range, make an offer - you will not be disappointed. "
  • lindamcz123
"I used to live in this community years ago and loved every day. There are two malls within walking distance. A couple of bus lines that can take you the the downtown train. Excellent expressway access going both north or south. The Park district is right across the street with an amazing Gym, child care and much, much more. LOVE Wilmette, and this area of it."
