7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy sons, my nieces, myself and my sister all went to/ are currently in the Upper Merion Area school district. I am now in my 21st year as a teacher in another school district. I feel that I can say with experience and expertise that the staff and administrators at UM are compassionate, well-organized and communicative. Here are two examples: My younger son was the first in his kindergarten class at another school district to read and write the alphabet and form words. His reading/ writing ability began declining in first grade. We moved back to my hometown when he was in 2nd grade and his teacher almost immediately identified him as having dyslexia. We got him an IEP, he worked with a reading specialist every day, and by the time he was in 8th grade he was on grade-level and exited out of the IEP program. His previous school district does not recognize dyslexia in the language of IEP's - I know this because that is where I work - and I am positive that if we had not moved to Upper Merion, his dyslexia would not have been recognized and he would have become embittered towards his education. My older son failed an AP Bio 2 class that I asked he be put into in his junior year in order to avoid taking chemistry, which I felt he would surely fail as he has a very difficult time with math. The school district did not offer summer recovery courses for AP classes but, after appealing to the assistant principal - who consulted with the science department chair and the principal - they agreed that there were enough commonalities between the recovery course and the AP Bio 2 class to allow him to take it. I feel that, if he had to take chemistry along with math in his senior year he would have certainly failed. The teachers and administrators at Upper Merion have proved time and again that their students' best interests come first and they will work tirelessly with parents to help their children succeed.Parent Review11mo ago - Bridgeport Elementary School

"some community events occur on a quarterly basis, at least, if not more. It is a good school district. The new principal of the Elementary school made an effort to bike to every student household to introduce himself to each student and their family. "

"Bridgeport is a cute, diverse, blue-collar area. As it is bordered by 202 and Rt 23, it is easily accessible to King of Prussia (and interchanges for 476, 76, and other major roadways) and all of the amenities it provides. The area is quite walkable, with easy access to SEPTA bus routes as well as the Norristown High Speed Line, which interchanges with the MFL at 69th St Station. Across the bridge into Norristown is the Norristown Transportation Center, with the R6 (Norristown/Manayunk Line) into Center City. Small businesses abound, from delis to pizza (Franzone's is a must!), to local dance studios to dentistry. Nearby King of Prussia boasts the KoP Mall, a plethora of chain eateries, and movie theatres to keep everyone in the family entertained. Bridgeport is family friendly with a handful of parks, including a well-maintained track and playgrounds at the Elementary school."
