What Locals Say about Second Ward
- Trulia User

"a place that's great for artists and lively personalities. it's very nice, a mixture of the city charm with suburban escape from the traditional city lifestyle. graffiti pieces and art paintings are all over the place making it a great place to do creative projects. people love dogs here, and everyone is pretty much too themselves. "

"East End is culturally vibrant in every way. The amount of languages, ethnicities, food, music, and art is amazing. The people are friendly and welcoming and there's a deep sense of community that you won't find in most Houston neighborhoods. The second ward might be the last authentic ward in Houston. "

"Proximity to downtown is a huge plus. MetroRail access, bike lines, walking trails, parks. MetroBus stops throughout neighborhood, but also walkable. Only thing lacking in this neighborhood are quality grocery stores. Mix of families, students, and elderly. lots of churches. "

"We have an Eado festival that happens every year. We often have community BBQs and there are some great indigenous people performances too"

"I've lived here for 1 year. There are definitely trade offs. The commute time to downtown is great. There are a lot of good bike trails and sidewalks, but on the other side people don't seem to take care of their pets and there are many loose dogs or unspayed/neutered pets. While the people are pleasant the views aren't always as easy. There are definitely attempts to beautify 2nd ward, but many are concerned with keeping its "2nd ward culture." hopefully it doesn't turn out like another heights..."

"Bus stops and metro rails are accessible. Even bike trails are becoming for available. Many of the residents bike or walk to and fro"

"This is a very friendly dog neighborhood with lots of green space, walking trails and more. It’s a great place to meet your neighbors while walking your pets!"

"There’s a lot of homeless around sometimes but I still feel safe. It is an up and coming area. It is getting so expensive and we also need shopping center areas built here "

"My neighborhood has a rich historical value which begins, surveyed 1828 for Samuel May Williams who worked under Stephen F. Austin. In 1861, it was subdivided by German immigrant Louis Pless. This neighborhood was one of the oldest German neighborhoods along Buffalo Bayou. I moved back into my home 19 years ago. The neighborhood is friendly."

"our neighborhood is made up of mostly Hispanic people but come from a large array of backgrounds are very hard-working individuals and come together as a community if ever needed it anyway plus we have two precincts"
