"a place that's great for artists and lively personalities. it's very nice, a mixture of the city charm with suburban escape from the traditional city lifestyle. graffiti pieces and art paintings are all over the place making it a great place to do creative projects. people love dogs here, and everyone is pretty much too themselves. "East End is culturally vibrant in every way. The amount of languages, ethnicities, food, music, and art is amazing. The people are friendly and welcoming and there's a deep sense of community that you won't find in most Houston neighborhoods. The second ward might be the last authentic ward in Houston. "

"Proximity to downtown is a huge plus. MetroRail access, bike lines, walking trails, parks. MetroBus stops throughout neighborhood, but also walkable. Only thing lacking in this neighborhood are quality grocery stores. Mix of families, students, and elderly. lots of churches. "

"We have an Eado festival that happens every year. We often have community BBQs and there are some great indigenous people performances too"

"I've lived here for 1 year. There are definitely trade offs. The commute time to downtown is great. There are a lot of good bike trails and sidewalks, but on the other side people don't seem to take care of their pets and there are many loose dogs or unspayed/neutered pets. While the people are pleasant the views aren't always as easy. There are definitely attempts to beautify 2nd ward, but many are concerned with keeping its "2nd ward culture." hopefully it doesn't turn out like another heights..."

"Bus stops and metro rails are accessible. Even bike trails are becoming for available. Many of the residents bike or walk to and fro"

"This is a very friendly dog neighborhood with lots of green space, walking trails and more. It’s a great place to meet your neighbors while walking your pets!"

"There’s a lot of homeless around sometimes but I still feel safe. It is an up and coming area. It is getting so expensive and we also need shopping center areas built here "

"My neighborhood has a rich historical value which begins, surveyed 1828 for Samuel May Williams who worked under Stephen F. Austin. In 1861, it was subdivided by German immigrant Louis Pless. This neighborhood was one of the oldest German neighborhoods along Buffalo Bayou. I moved back into my home 19 years ago. The neighborhood is friendly."

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageRipley House charter is a really good school, the middle school is a whole different story. My children have attended Ripley since Kinder garden and it was one of the best elementary schools out there. Now my children attend the middle school. I have to say it is the worst. My children come home without homework, they did not start learning until late October - early November. Everything changed since the staff changed. The food is horrible but that been that way for a couple of years. The kids come home starving! I give the elementary 5 stars although that was from the 2011 - 2012 school year before the staff change. The middle school, I give 1 star. Your child would get a better education from Yes Prep, Gateway, or Kipp. I'm looking to change my children out as well. Already many parents have had their children make the move to other middle schools.Parent Review13y ago2 Reviews - Laurenzo Early Childhood Center

NAGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son had a speech delay and almost immediately after starting here, he began speaking! This pre-school offers both English and Spanish classroom settings. It also focuses on allowing the student to become as independent as possible which may seem cold at first given their ages but proves to be so effective to their continued development and well-being in school. The teachers here, in my experience, have generally seemed polite, courteous, and eager to help with any of my concerns or questions. There are plenty of opportunities to volunteer and help out as parents. The administration in this school has been professional in my experience as well. The comments I read before allude to a rude front office staff; however, in my experience any curt behavior was mainly concerning the adherence to the written and communicated rules, or lack thereof. This school is small in actual physical size compared to other elementary schools; therefore, the rules limiting the amount of people and additional children (i.e. siblings) is strictly enforced. Please give this school a chance; it has surpassed my expectations and I am more than happy to be a part of it's community.Parent Review8y ago5 Reviews - Our Lady Of Guadalupe School

NAGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school creates a family environment and my son has really thrived. The new administration seems to be really pushing the school forward academically and working within the neighborhood. I hope it continues to grow the way it is now.Parent Review8y ago4 Reviews
