2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy 4 y/o son was enrolled in the PALS (preschool for all learners) program with Ms. Toledo and it has been the best decision we ever made for him! He’s made significant progress at school and at home and has only attended Annandale for a month. We receive daily updates from his teacher and it’s so nice to be reassured that he’s doing well. Our son is non-verbal & has level 3 ASD. You can imagine how hard it is to let your non-verbal child go to school knowing he can’t let us know how his day went. But from the moment we drop him off, he goes running in. When we pick him up, hes all smiles and that there shows us how much he loves being there. His teachers have been so supportive of his sensory needs and the patience they’ve showed our son has meant the world to us. Just recently the school held a attendance & biliteracy ceremony- our son was not able to sit in during the ceremony due to sensory overload so he waited outside until his name was called, but the principal Ms. Vega and Ms. Sandoval asked the audience to give a silent/quiet applause to make our son more comfortable as he received his award and that made us appreciate this school staff even more. the level of awareness is something the world lacks, but not at Annandale. We are heard. We are seen. We are included. We can’t thank you enough. Our only regret was not enrolling our son sooner. So a big thank you to Ms.Toledo, Ms.Diana, Ms.Ramirez, Ms.Batres, Ms.Vega, and Ms.Sandoval. you truly are making a difference in our little guys world.Parent Review11mo ago15 Reviews - Luther Burbank Middle School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageSo far, I like this school a lot. They let you get lunch more than 1 time and have different choices for lunch. The garden is nice and the teachers are also nice. At first I thought my math teacher Mr. Morse would be mean but he's a funny and understanding teacher. My grade went from a D in math to a C from tutoring. My grades are good but my pe teacher isn't very understanding. My mom tells me to not run if I can't because of my asthma but my pe teacher makes me run another lap if I even walk a little. Recently, after even a short lap I've been feeling nausea but my pe teacher doesn't care. My English/history teacher let's us go to the garden after a lot of work, I'd say she's a good teacher. Over all, this school's good.Student Review2y ago6 Reviews - Benjamin Franklin Senior High School

"If you’re a highland park native then you know we are surrounded by 2 gangs it used to be 3. Dont be too freely into thinking you can do what you want and talk crazy to anyone here because it doesnt end up nice. Shootings still occur even if its gentrified enough. Be cautious, be alert and mind your business."

"Highland park is a mix of retro and modern. Lots of cute fun bars and restaurants. Some tailored to OG locals and some tailored to new hipsters. Overall a great feel. Lots of good food. Mostly quiet even with the bars. "

"There are sidewalks. However, many dog owners leave their dogs in their front fenced yards which leaves them overly aggressive & can be quite uncomfortable when walking your dogs, especially if you have small dogs and a huge aggressive pit bull tries to jump through their fence. I see why the neighborhood has received the nickname “Highland Bark.” While this treatment of dogs is inhumane, it also lends to an uncomfortable stroll with your furry friends. In addition, apparently “illegal” doesn’t seem to apply to fireworks in this neighborhood. They’re pretty much a year round event here and several months leading into July you’ll hear nightly fireworks which traumatize most dogs. Just being real. This isn’t an ideal dog neighborhood unless you don’t care about your dog. "

"People don’t pick up after their dogs and it’s upsetting as it’s such a great neighborhood. Some people have their dogs sleep outside which you can hear barking. "

"The local artists’ events are what really make it special...from No WiFi at the Hi Hat or mariachi music at the first Friday art fair. It’s especially fun when the Bob Baker puppeteers bring their marionettes across the street to the park for the kids to enjoy."

"I work in Pasadena and live in the Garvanza area of HP. I primarily drive, but have walked to the Gold Line stop (about 1 mile from where I live) to work and biked. My husband sometimes works downtown. His commute is 40 min during rush hour, 20-25 outside of rush hour."
