"Very walkable area with a wonderful independent coffee shop, movie theater, restaurants and antique shops. Parking is easily accessible on the street. I lived here several years and rarely had an issue finding parking. "
  • Trulia User
"There are a few dog parks in the area and people were genuinely happy to see dog around (depending on the training). People pick after there pets. Besides the dog parks there are great outdoor locations to walk and play with you pet."
  • Trulia User
"Ghent is without a doubt a dog friendly neighborhood. People are always walking their dogs when the weather is nice and most neighbors are good about cleaning up after their dogs."
  • Pgtrotman
"This is a very eclectic neighborhood. It is extremely walkable and has people of all types. I have lived and owned 3 different homes in this neighborhood over the past 20 years."
  • Mindful K.
"people are always walking their dogs, but often off leash which is an unfortunate safety risk. also not a fan of the amount of people asking me for money on a daily "
  • Traci H.
"nice clean active community. close to everything. lots of local small businesses. easy access to military bases"
  • Mindful K.
"everyone seems to keep to themselves unless they've been here for a while. there are a lot if events between here and downtown but nothing that's super interesting. sometimes we get cool exhibits. "
  • Pedro C.
"Pretty, nice, pet friendly neighborhood. There are dog parks, or nice spaces to take or walk your dog. Kind of expensive if you want to buy or rent. "
  • Amandavis00
"The neighborhoods are family friendly but the drivers in the area are not always paying attention to pedestrians. Street parking is difficult as not everyone parks in a way that allows other cars to park there as well. "
  • Amandavis00
"I’ve worked and lived in Ghent for a long time. I’m from Norfolk and know the area very well. It’s been my favorite neighborhood living in to date! "
  • Gill T.
"Walkable, ride a bike, take a scooter or drive to work 10 minutes away. Very convenient to downtown. There is also light rail."
  • Diana L.
"The houses are incredible, 100 years old and have been renovated. The eclectic, creative, educated people who live here. Walking to funky shops, intimate restaurants. Ghent in progressive. I love it. "
  • Diana L.
"I love Ghent! I appreciate the small restaurants and eclectic, artsy people I have around me. There are many parks and I feel like my daughter is safe within this area. Schools are mediocre at best. But there are plenty of private schools. I send my daughter to public schools, but she’s in a special program designed for gifted kids. "
  • Dorothy
"Live bands play in the street for St Patrick’s and Halloween. But everyday is like a party in Ghent."
  • Dorothy E.
"Ghent has huge parties with live bands in the street for Halloween and St Patrick’s Day, but everyday is like a party on Colley Ave."
  • Lisa J.
"Very neighborly if you want to visit, drawback is that it’s gotten too expensive to buy. I only rent, a very high priced condo"
  • Dorothy E.
"Lots of well behaved kids. Very good schools. Parents very involved. Safe for kids to walk to friends’s houses."
  • Kelsey
"Close to dog parks and everyone is super chill about dogs. A ton of dog parks. I have two pups and I always pick up after them. Everywhere is super clean so please pick up after your pup. "
  • Sarah L.
"I can walk to the store and to all of the restaurants close by, it’s a friendly lively community full of things to do. "
  • Mike B.
"Ghent is a nice mix of young professionals and older residents. You have to ability to walk or bike anywhere. It is a clean and safe neighborhood where you always have something to do!"
  • Lmc s.
"What makes Ghent unique is the fact that it is close to everything - restaurants on colley, downtown, 21st street - and yet it feels like a cozy intimate neighborhood."
  • Sarah L.
"I love that I can walk to the local grocery store, restaurants and bars from my house. Usually everyone is really friendly and welcoming too. "
  • Michael a.
"Incredibly walkable area. Multiple groceries, bars/restaurants, shops, and churches within walking distance. Lots of people born and raised here, but lots of transplants as well here for the Navy, EVMS, and ODU. Lots of cultural diversity in terms of people and food. "
