This unit is perfect for a work-from-home couple that enjoys the outdoors . The apartment is in an 1890s traditional New England farmhouse which is part of a 30-acre farm on the Oyster River. The farm includes a vegetable garden, a large field (perfect for walking dogs) and a dock on the river all of which are available to renters. It is one mile from downtown Durham, but a long driveway keeps is private and quiet. Parking is available in front of the home.

There are two large bedrooms and one smaller one which is perfect for a home office. It has both a dining room and a living room that contains a wood stove. Kitchen has new stove, dishwasher, refrigerator, washer and dryer.

It has recently undergone a renovation that includes all new windows, new electrical service, all fresh paint and new appliances.

There are several other dwelling units on the property and I live in one of them.

If you are interested, here is a little more history about Shankhassick Farm:
Shankhassick Farm was founded by the Burnham family in the mid-17th century. The main house which is the one for rent, was constructed in 1673.
In 1906, Ralph D. Paine, a well-known journalist and popular author, and his wife, Katharine, purchased Shankhassick Farm and completely rebuilt the main house. He raised both a family and a collection of cows, horses and chickens.
My father was the eldest of his three sons and would become the managing editor and publisher of Fortune Magazine. In the 1970s he was the original remote worker, spending much of his time at the farm, and editing and publishing Fortune by phone, with occasional trips to New York.

Lease is annual. Renter pays for heat, internet and electric.

    "This neighborhood is on a quiet cul-de-sac, yet less than 1/2 mile to Route 4., and a mile and a half to UNH (an easy bike ride). The quiet neighborhood has no through traffic, and is near the bus system. It is 10 minutes to both Dover and Portsmouth, and close to UNH, with all of its cultural offerings. Oyster River School District is highly rated nationally. Students in Durham have the opportunity to take courses for free at the university in high school, if they have good grades. Durham offers many recreational and community activities, as does the university, Durham also offers many amenities, like city water and trash pick up. It's an ideal place to live - safe, quiet, good activities, proximity to shopping and the ocean, and only about an hour to the mountains, Boston, and Portland."
