7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWonderful school in a wonderful area with excellent teachers. My kids thrived at Eckstein. The school is very academically strong, the band program is a standout, test scores are among the highest in the state. Kids can walk to several local businesses for after school hangouts, the area is beautiful and thriving. Lucky kids!Parent Review5mo ago - Laurelhurst Elementary School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe most important things for my kids to get out of elementary school, are a strong foundation for reading, writing and math skills, in addition to excellent social, emotional learning skills. Laurelhurst meets all of these priorities, especially the social emotional learning piece due to the special education program. No school is perfect, including this one, but I can’t imagine a better place for my kids.Parent Review11mo ago - Roosevelt High School

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy child thrived at Roosevelt. She had several dynamic teachers who engaged her academic curiosity, and she found her cohort in a large, supportive group of theater kids. Being a large public high school, Roosevelt won't be the right fit for every student - no school can be. But Roosevelt benefits from having a lot of engaged parents in an affluent part of the city, with resources from the University of Washington nearby. The light-rail station across the street (opening fall 2021) will make it easier for students from other parts of the city to get there.Parent Review2y ago - Check out schools near 4760 20 Avenue NE.

"Moved to this area not too long ago, there’s not a lot of light at night, but streets are pretty walkable, also neighbors are friendly. I do see some homeless from time to time."

"U District Food Walk happens annually on The Ave (University Way NE). Convenient neighborhood for students since it is close to campus and public transit. Most apartment buildings tend to be on the older side (~20-30 years+). Overall good choice if you’re a student at UW. "

"I have a short walk to 2 light rail stations, multiple bus lines to choose and lots of bike lanes for my daily bicycle commute."

"U district is nice. The ave near UW can be scary at night. Lots of drug addicts and homeless and crime. Cars are broken into in this are fairly often even in nice areas.. wheike this sounds aweful it is quite beautiful. Close walk to bars, good food, multiple groceries and gyms. Between gasworks, ravenna, and greenlake parks. Favorite place ive lived and i have been visited every state and lived in many."

"Easy. Just know when heavy traffic times are and you will be fine. Also use common sense on commuting. "
- Trulia User

"Only special in the rise in crime and the complete lack of police. There is a significant increase in homelessness’s and mental health issues making this increasingly a dangerous place to live. And it’s very expensive. "

"There are a lot of dog owners in the neighborhood with several great dog walking and socializing options (college students love meeting your dogs!!)"

"I’ve lived in U District for 3 years near the Ave and its bustling during the day and night. I feel safe when the sun is out but I avoid going out alone at night. "

"Pretty safe in mast parts. There is a booming homeless population however. And tents are everywhere. Parks are lovely many restaurants and bars."

"A mixture of college students, homelessness, and families. University of Washington keeps a bustle through the neighborhood during the school year. A difference of one block can move you from a college campus to a peaceful neighborhood. Lots of restaurants, shops and businesses at University Village with a quiet beautiful Ravenna Park just down the street. "

"It’s mostly students and Asian food. It feels unsafe sometimes but if there are people around it’s nice."
- Sarah C.

"No space for dogs here no place to run or get exercise. Too expensive for the crime and drug problems seen every single day. Extremely loud in and out of home. Lots of loud students screaming and homeless people screaming in the middle of the night. Dirty and tons of vomit in ally ways. Many break ins in buildings. Neighbors turn blind eye to everyone. "
