About this House

NEW ON THE MARKET! (1st tenants there now)With a park-like setting in back, Sunny Casa is nestled on a quiet residential street with friendly neighbors. Outfitted like a Mexican hacienda with rustic pine, festive paint colors, authentic Mexican tile, original oak floors, and has a Frida Kahlo/Diego Rivera vibe. The front door opens into the living room w cushy seating, a pine 'treasure chest' for a coffee table, a 47" flat screen, and a hand-carved table from Ensenada. That area flows into the dining room which has a pine table and ladder-back chairs. The adjacent kitchen is decorated with hand-painted Mexican tile, the real deal. Off the hallway is the main bedroom, featuring a queen bed with a hand-carved/painted Diego Rivera style headboard, nightstand, a dresser and a Talavera tile mirror with punched tin. The other bedroom features a daybed with wrought-iron scrollwork. The sitting room features a leather couch with round nailwork, rocking chair, and a vintage photo of Pancho Villa. Also off the hall is the bathroom with spectacular hand painted tile and a custom cabinet made by Mexican artisans. The backyard is pleasant and private and the entire house itself is cheerful and has a great feel. The photos do not tell the story. Apart from the occasional passing car, the most noticeable sounds you hear are birds: phoebes, towhees, sparrows, scrub jays and hawks that land in the tall trees surrounding the property. There is a little laundry room at the edge of the back patio, with a brand new washer and dryer. We are San Diego natives who grew up going to TJ and other places in colorful Mexico. There is a certain magic there for those who care to see it. The good humor closer to the surface, and a warmth that is uniquely Latin. The current troubles in Mexico make us reluctant to travel there, and we miss it. Sunny Casa is our attempt to recreate a little slice of Mexico, right here. Sunny Casa is 8 miles from vibrant downtown San Diego, 2 miles from downtown La Mesa with its cool coffee shops and fun bookstores; 3 miles from San Diego's largest open-space park (Mission Trails, great hiking), 2 miles from scenic, walkable Lake Murray, 3 miles from several medical centers, and 3 miles from Grossmont Shopping Center.Rate is $2300 per month with a 1-month minimum stay and a 75% security deposit. Please book a minimum of one week prior to move in. Pet considered with additional deposit.
