Overall, New Dorp is a good school. Most people there are nice. However, the school does not give the necessary information on gradation requirements. Not many people know that 100 hours of community service is needed to graduate. I did not know either until someone told me. All they said was 44 credits are a requirement. The school should tell you that service hours are mandatory. There are students in 11th grade who do not know about the hours. I mean no harm in this review, I just wanted to bring awareness to this. There was a teacher today during state testing who was my proctor; she was horrible and definitely power-abused. She got mad at me for tapping (it was so quiet even I couldn't hear it), but she somehow could from 8 feet away. She also got mad about me opening the laptop screen after I was finished with the test, just to check the time even though their was another student sitting directly next to me, finished with the test and is using the laptop to find references to draw, this student was a female so maybe that's why. She thinks she is always right, so when she was talking to the class and emphasized listening to the teacher and said, "If you have any questions about it, talk to me after class," and so I did. Then, after exchanging like 2 sentences with her, she remained on the stance that she was right and said that the back and forth was pointless and i just talked back even when i protested and said that i was just asking for the details she settled on the fact that she was gonna give me a minga and call home, mind you this was because i "talked back" i had a bad expierence with this teacher a couple months prior on a trip for a whole different reason and she said "ive been here 15 years" or "ive been a teacher 15 years" something along those lines and then pretty much decided that she was definately right, hated it, completly soured the mood for a trip. If they are reading this, I'm not criticizing you openly, but just recommending that you be a little more open-minded and look on the other side of the argument and see how outrageous it is to not even consider the other side just because you think you are always right just because you are older than the other person or in a "higher" postion.

This school is very supportive. I had some concerns but with communication my concerns were all addressed which is much appreciated. This school has been working hard on the extra curricular activities including principal book club, test prep for my third grader. Hiphop classes!! Also the spirit week and special dress days my children love!
