I graduated recently from the IB Diploma program. I found that anderson high school offered a great balance of challenging academics and support for students. In particular, I found the math and history departments amazing. I struggled with math at the beginning of high school, failing quizzes and tests frequently, but through the support of the teachers and their encouragement, I made it up to Calc BC with an A+ in the class and got a 5 on the AP test. In addition to that, the IB history department was so great and really prepared their students well for college and for the IB exams. I was a lazy student when it came to studying for my IB exams at the end of senior year, but because of the structure of the history curriculum and the challenging nature of the class, I got a 7 without much self-driven studying. Not that I encourage not studying, but the class itself was so interesting and valuable that the review materials that were offered by the class were sufficient studying for me. I also think the club and athletic scene at Anderson is really great. I encourage all students to get involved with a sport or meaningful extracurricular to really get the Anderson experience. I now attend a "public ivy" university and feel like Anderson prepared me really well for my classes and helped me learn a lot about myself and what I want to do. I will say that I don't know what it's like to not be an AP/IB student at Anderson, but from my experience the AP/IB classes were great and the teachers were really passionate and supportive.

This is the worst school. The bathrooms are falling apart the sink is basically a table with sinks and the toilets are dirty and the doors are falling apart the ceiling is falling. they think they are an excellent school but they aren't they also support pride and teach kids about pride they even ask if you need assistance with changing the gender or name of your child the library is full of pride flaggs.

My children have been at Summitt for a number of years, and I'm commenting because I see a lot of comments about the school prior to some fairly big changes. Specifically, prior to the current principal there was some turnover associated with personnel issues. At the same time, one of my children was targeted for bad behavior despite being in a very disorganized, poorly-run classroom about which there was rare and ineffective communication. So we'd hear nothing for long periods and then suddenly the phone was ringing off the hook with sudden problems that actually had been going on for a long time. We were also approached at dropoff by a teacher who was not even my child's teacher, who seemed to be angry at us for not curbing behavior that we had no idea had occurred. Some of this behavior was due to disabilities, and so we went through the IEP process, which at this point several years later I now know was not the correct process. It did not feel as though the school and we were operating as a team, and it did not feel like we had any choice in the accommodations that they felt they should make. Around that same time, ASID broadly sacked many of the special ed staff "to improve morale," during which it was hard for them to actually get much done in that area. That said, since that era, and with new leadership, my children have had great support -- one with an IEP and one without -- and have had a great school experience. Despite the turnover, there are many teachers of fairly long tenure there, who are effective classroom educators. The dual language program appears to be going strong and adds cultural opportunities regardless of enrollment in the program. Overall, Summitt is now a well-run school with relatively good services.
