Description
This property is not currently for sale or for rent on Trulia. The description and property data below may have been provided by a third party, the homeowner or public records.
Here's a chance to gain a foothold in the heart of Red Hook, NYC's most dynamic and fastest growing waterfront neighborhood! Built an extra 24-feet wide and 65-feet deep, 361 Van Brunt St is a 3,800 sf mixed-used townhouse with three beautifully renovated apartments and a fantastic, highly-visible corner commercial space. Sunlight flows into every floor of 361 Van Brunt Street all day long, thanks to its three exposures (south, east, and west). The current owners have completed an array of upgrades and improvements, making this a great turn-key opportunity for an investor or owner-occupant.
The ground floor retail space sits astride Red Hook's most vibrant corner at the intersection of Van Brunt and Dikeman Streets. Establish your own gallery, creative space, retail store, restaurant, or other business, or rent the commercial space and collect high rents that are bound to grow significantly over time. There's also the option to incorporate the retail space back into the building's residential space for your own use or additional income. There is a full basement below the commercial space, which is accessed through the main hallway. The basement may be leased as part of the commercial space, or kept separate.
Above the retail space there are two sunny two-bedroom apartments with three exposures, upgraded kitchens and bathrooms, and the building's original fireplace mantles. The second-floor apartment steps out to a sunny private terrace.
The third apartment stretches across three levels and has been called a carriage house or maisonette, with its own address and separate private entrance at 104 Dikeman St., as well as an entrance through the main building on Van Brunt St. The maisonette features two bedrooms, two and a half baths, energy efficient mini-split air conditioning, a laundry room, a finished basement, and a sunny south facing terrace. The great-room is massive and graced with soaring ceilings, an open kitchen, and reclaimed antique paneling.
Built in the 1860's, 361 Van Brunt St has been central to life in Red Hook for over 160 years. From the 1870's to the early 1900's, 361 Van Brunt was a saloon run by Daniel Dougherty and then by Edward Jones, who renamed it The Jones Hotel. The building later housed a shoe store, hair salon and other businesses. In the 1890's the 12th Ward Democratic Club had its headquarters here on the second floor.
Red Hook has long been a haven for artists and creative professionals, and a sense of community amongst many small businesses and local artists and art spaces continues today. Red Hook has quickly become one of Brooklyn's most desirable neighborhoods, thanks to its culturally diverse population and superb restaurants, galleries, boutiques, and music venues. Neighborhood favorites such as Fort Defiance, Hometown BBQ, Red Hook Lobster Pound, the Red Hook Tavern, and Brooklyn Crab are all close by. Red Hook's waterfront parks and piers are also just a stone's throw away. For a quick commute to Manhattan and the rest of Brooklyn, the NY Water Taxi is nearby, Wall Street is 10 minutes by car, and the F/G trains at Smith & 9th Street are just a 15-minute stroll away. Shown by appointment only.

2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe absolute worst school NYC has to offer. I am disappointed in this school. It has done not only the kids but parents a disservice. From discrimination to bullying, racsim, corpral punishment , etc my family has had traumatizing experiences with this horrible facility. My 3 children didn't learn much here positive. And at one point where fearful for their lives academically this school lacks the foundation are children required to succeed. Are apprentences should not shape the care or education we have a right to. My family was harassed by this school for years. At one point was told if I was not white could not afford Nike or Jordan's didn't have blue eyes and blond hair that I would be harassed by them and acs. This happened multiple times. Acs forced me to cut my childrens locks off saying they would remove my children if I didn't the school did not want my kids hair to be in locks I was scared didn't realize this was corpral punishment and cut them out my babies hair I am still traumatized as are they. My kids where bullied by students, even the school nurses and staff. Every time I would report them acs would be called in retaliation. Honestly I kept my children in the school this long because they love their friends but I just can't do it anymore I was going through surgery multiple surgeries and this school made my life my family's life horrible and as he dubble hockey sticks ish as possible. I mean we no longer felt like humans by the time we were on spring break. My civil rights were violated they allowed the nurses to violate doctors orders for my children they just we're not safe there nor was I as a parent female woman of color. I cried for help we fell through the cracks. Don't let yours go through it like mine I would not recommend this school to anyone else. Not even with the wonderful investors was this school able to change. So I am looking for a new school. I want to sue but realistically this is America I'm poor class black. I lost the moment I put my Fath in them. Worst sorry excuse for a school I've ever had the displeasure to come in counter with. 1 one was 676 seem like ps15 and 676 plague like schools and will never lead you to sucess academically. # bullying smh im done Further more God watches all and I know that no God smiled on the truma we endured here since 2017.. I pray we don't see your school 2022-2023 year. If I could rate 0 stars I would.Parent Review1y ago - South Brooklyn Community High School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son is currently in 6th grade at BCS and we could not be happier. I never thought my kid would look forward to school after many years struggling in elementary school to complete assignments and participate in class (we finally got him diagnosed with ADHD during the remote learning phase of covid), but it's a different world now. The teachers at BCS seem happy and really engaged with their students, and Scill (the principal), Imani (AP), and the administrative staff are communicative, caring, and available to both students and parents. The 6th grade teacher team sends out a detailed email to parents each week with a rundown of what the kids are studying, when they have quizzes and assignments due, and what the homework expectations are (homework is very light so far, which I love--most of the BCS work gets done in class). Each child is assigned to a "crew" at the beginning of 6th grade that they stay with the whole way through BCS, and they have a crew period every day where they can touch base with their crew leaders and friends and have some downtime (sometimes they play games in crew, sometimes they use the period to do homework, but either way it's a nice break in the academic day). My biggest worry with middle school was whether my child would have social-emotional support and feel good at/about school, and BCS has exceeded my expectations on that front. If you are looking for a diverse, inclusive, supportive community where kids' well-being is nurtured and the academics are strong but not rigorous or stressful, BCS is a fantastic choice.Parent Review1y ago - Check out schools near 361 Van Brunt St.
