Description

Please call or text 518 646 2105 for a showing. A perfect time capsule, this house has had just one owner until recently. Its design was commissioned of a Frank Lloyd Wright-style NYC architect, Norbert Turkel. The owner, a prominent Albany builder, built the house to conform to the specs of one of his own skyscrapers. It is an extremely sturdy steel-framed house! It's about 2722 square feet, and built on .48 acre. It was at first the only house on this dead-end street. The street was named Pine Tree Lane after the house: Pine Tree House. Pine Tree Lane remains a very secluded street today, in spite of its proximity to New Scotland Avenue. This mid-century house retains all its original charm. Only the floors are new throughout, except for the original flagstones in the foyer, on the patio, in the long hallway, in the dining room, and in front of the fireplace. Features include, but are not limited to, cantilevered roofs, two working fireplaces, a dozen closets, a bar, 3.5 baths, vaulted ceilings in almost every room, an open floor plan, a gajillion architectural details, picture windows throughout, and a garden with mature trees. The home was literally built around a giant 19th century oak tree. The party-basement is as big as the whole rest of the house. This is a perfect house for kids' sleepovers, weddings, family holidays, band practice, even lockdowns! There is a Thermador refrigerator, and a wet bar in the basement. Altogether, there are about a dozen rooms, not counting bathrooms. It's walking distance from St. Peter's Hospital, Maria College, and Temple Israel. CVS and Stewarts are not far away, but then again they never are. There are some good new places to eat, such as Pearl's and 605. What I love about the house is that it's in original vintage condition; also, that the size of the house as well as the flow allow you to spread out (if you want to count the basement in the square footage, the square footage doubles to 5000 square feet overall.) no matter how many you are; and what I love most is that the house is as beautiful as the photos, only real, and actually very cozy and comfortable. "I’m not a parent, it’s a nice area in Albany. It’s an older homes type of area, double wide street. It seems like one of the nicest streets I’ve seen in the area, great for walking!"
  • Mario J.
"This is a great neighborhood! Convenient location, public transportation, dog walking, quiet, to say the least. "
  • Susan O.
"There are many streets with sidewalks. Houses and yards are well maintained and as long as dogs are leashed and their owners pick up after them dogs are welcome. "
  • Nat K.
"This is one of the nicest neighborhoods in the area. But it’s hard to get to know the neighbors, as there are not too many kids. "
  • David P.
"There are plenty of places to walk the dog including a lake with a fountain and playground. Not too much traffic either and everyone is friendly."
  • Kristina C.
"Sidewalks don’t always get cleared after snow and that makes walking a dog more difficult. Pretty walkable neighborhood."
  • Tina M.
"I’ve lived here almost a year and it’s nice and I feel safe and secure. Would recommend this area to anyone "
  • Tina M.
"My commute is fine I drive wherever I need to be. Buses also seem available for people that don’t drive"
  • Tina M.
"There a lot of dogs and this area is great for walking dogs and walking I would recommend this area "
  • Diane D.
"It is very dog friendly and everyone picks up after their pets. There are a few cats that roam but there is not much you can do about their toileting habits"
  • Elijah C.
"It’s great, nice people, nice houses and safe. I’ve been living here for over three years and complete satisfied with it"
  • Elizabeth M.
"Asome home its so coo, and so close to my school"
  • xamvel
"This area offers the best of every world. Close knit neighborhoods, nice homes and a quick walk to restaurants, bars, shopping, live theater and movies. It has the all of the conveniences of city living with a slightly suburban feel. I lived here a young couple without kids and then with a family and there was always something to do just a few blocks away."
  • mickseverance
"The location is unbeatable! Half a mile from restaurants and bars; less than two miles away from Stuyvesant Plaza; and, immediate access to 85. All the homes in this neighborhood are well cared for and there has recently been a turnover from more elderly people living there to professional, young and middle-aged couples. There are some families in the neighborhood, but most send their kids to private schools. Davis Ave, the street the home faces, is very quiet, but Western Ave. can get busy at times. "
