Three of my children attended Palms and my youngest is culminating this spring. They all attended the gifted magnet. They had many wonderful teachers invested in their students' education action and well being. Besides a rigorous academic curriculum, they had opportunities for involvement in Leadership, Journalism (Palms Press), and Art electives. Teachers encouraged my children to try out for competitions in art and spelling. Two of my kids went on a wonderful week long East coast tour visiting NY, Philly, DC and Boston. As a parent, I've been involved in the Friends of Palms Booster club and helped organize the campus beautification days. Overall I'd say Palms is a good fit if you're looking for an academically rigorous school with a diverse student body and dedicated teachers and staff.

Both our kids (one graduate + one 5th grader) have had a great experience in the Spanish World Language program. Although it was established just a few years ago, the addition of the WLP has turned what was already a very good neighborhood school into an absolute gem, bringing in even more invested, passionate, and engaged families and sponsoring cultural events and programming that benefit ALL students. Unlike 99% of other schools that have multiple tracks (residential school + magnet or dual language program), where each program is completely siloed and separate, at CHES, the WLP and residential/ SAS program are fully integrated into a single, unified school community: from academics (teachers collaborate across grade levels) to fundraising and social/ community events (Campus campout, Valentine Rock, Dia de Metros, Dia de Niños, Astrocamp, etc.). We also have a deeply committed, motivated, and award-winning staff. The principal, Dr. Linda Beck, was recently awarded the prestigious Cahn Fellowship and she is loved and respected by parents, students, and teachers alike. We have also recently had two LAUSD "Teachers of the Year" and were selected as a Cotsen Art of Teaching School, with 8 teachers participating in the mentor/ fellowship program. There are few schools in LAUSD with a teaching staff this motivated and committed to their professional development and to serving ALL students. Overall, CHES provides a well-rounded educational experience, while exposing kids to a diverse community, and leaving them with great friends and fantastic memories.

My son has had an outstanding experience at Hamilton. As part of the AMPA Magnet, he’s had the chance to play in multiple musical groups, learn from professional musicians, and record in a studio. Academically, he’s received an excellent education—he’s taken multiple AP classes (scoring well on the tests) and has been inspired by some truly exceptional teachers.Having so many students involved in the arts creates a vibrant and supportive campus environment. There’s always a show or concert to look forward to, and I believe this artistic atmosphere encourages students to take creative risks and support each other.As a parent, I always feel welcome on campus. The administrators and staff are approachable and available, which means a lot to our family. We’re so happy we chose this school.
