1/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageYa know despite the fact that the school is overall not a great place, I've been having a great experience! You'll be good as long as you don't heavily involve yourself with a bunch of various persons and their business. Be careful not to mess with people, but if that does end up happening just tell a staff member about it, it doesn't seem like people try to harass the people their friends are harassing (at least for me). A bunch of my teachers are really supportive, I like all of them except for my biology teacher, and a lot of the teachers seem to be going from decent to pretty good at what they are teaching, and if you can look in the right place, you can make great relationships with fellow students! Even the ones who are rough around the edges are pretty good people! Overall, I'm having fun here! I could've chosen to stay at the high rated school I was at, but I decided to transfer here and I'm not regretting it!Student Review2y ago - Central High School

1/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageCHS is a great school. I have a totally different background and was worried about bullies but I have been received with love and kindness. Excellence is celebrated regardless of where you come from. Teachers interact with us like their own children. I am a 9th grader and can say I absolutely enjoy school. My teachers are already discussing college courses with me.Future Aeronautical Engineer,Oluwadamilare.Student Review6y ago - East Side High School

1/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI just was awarded section 8. I was so excited. I wanted to move out of Newark. Then I received a letter from Malcolm Shabazz stating that my son was one of 6 students in Newark district schools that was awarded a scholarship to Lincoln Tech. All expenses paid. Malcolm Shabazz also informed us that not only will he be graduating next year with honors from there but also Lincoln Tech. They informed us upon graduating in would receive an additional scholarship for 85,000, to further his education. My son was and is so excited. So as for me moving out of Newark, not happening now. My son's dreams have to come first. Thank you Malcolm Shabazz for caring so much about my child and his future!Parent Review6mo ago - Weequahic High School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAlot of people say Dayton Street is a "bad" school. Some say its a "failing" school. Though they have one thing right, it is a failing school but its not such a bad school. The teachers really care about giving students a good education there. its just some students there need a little extra "push" and with that extra "push" i know Dayton Street School can turn those horrible steriotypes into wonderful compliments ! and , if you shall ask me how I know ? well because i was a former student there for 7-8 yrs. I go to TEAM Charter now but i still dont think there is another school out there that is as encouraging and determined with so much resilience and perseverance as Dayton Street School ! :)Other Review12y ago - Check out schools near 266-268 Meeker Ave.

My car was broken into once, and another car was totaled in a hit and run right in front of my house. I had the luxury of having wonderful neighbors who looked out for one another. If you are looking to live in Newark I will say this is a good neighborhood but not one that I would be comfortable raising my family in any longer."
