Description

OPEN SUN - COME GET A POPSICLE! As seen in The Washington Post, The Spruce, and SemiStories, 2619 3rd St NE has been meticulously restored by its owners - one of whom is a DC-based architect and designer herself! This home shines with exquisite attention to detail, expert craftsmanship, total functionality, and respect for the original design - including hearty pine hardwood floors and original chestnut trim (painstakingly stripped and refurbished by hand).   The foyer entrance brings you into the kitchen or the living room, which showcases built-in shelving and an attached, custom media cabinet. The remarkable kitchen features two-tone cabinets, Silestone & Oak (3” thick) countertops, stainless steel appliances, and dining banquette with custom back-rest and storage. Fun Fact: the wooden shelf above the countertop was originally a floor joist removed during the renovation, a reminder of the home’s rich history. Beyond the kitchen are a powder room and office that leads to a deep, fenced backyard with option for parking.  The Upper Level has three bedrooms, a beautifully updated full bath, and a den/office. Features of this floor include a W/D hookup in the den (W/D have been removed but can be re-installed for the sale if Buyer prefers), new skylight, and an extended built-in standing desk w storage - perfect for WFH.  The Lower Level offers fabulous usability as either a guest suite or an extension of your living space with a large rec space, full bathroom, abundant storage, a Washer/Dryer, and rear egress. The bathroom here has hand-laid penny tile (take a look for a surprise pattern!) and a beautiful glass shower.   The fenced front yard makes a great communal play space and the classic DC front porch has been entirely re-built to include cedar ceiling and fan. Other features of the home: Whole house Aquasana water filter, Tankless water heater, Sound-insulation in floors/ceilings and party wall, and, due to the RF zoning, ability for an ADU in the back. Directly across from the Edgewood Rec Center, this home is also < 1 mile to RI Ave-Brentwood Metro and convenient to many NE favorites, including Kraken Kourts & Skates, Alamo Drafthouse & Cinema, McMillan Reservoir District, Bryant Street development, Brookland, and a Trader Joe’s coming soon.  OPEN SAT & SUN – come check it out for yourself and grab a popsicle to cool off in the summer heat!!

  • dkdauphinais
"With Rhode Island Ave NE to the south and Catholic University to the north, Edgewood is a quiet family-oriented neighborhood of row houses and friendly neighbors. I've lived here for 9 years and have seen the natural changes of older, long-time residents giving way to a new generation of home owners. We still have a good mix of older folks with young families, single professionals and students. There's a lot of development happening around the Rhode Island Ave. Metro Station, Home Depot and Giant. Chancellor's Row just off 4th Street NE has new townhouses. There are still some rough edges, but the neighborhood is changing every day!"
  • wtersch
"I've lived in Edgewood for a year and half and am glad I moved to the neighborhood. Folks take pride in the community and are friendly and welcoming. There is a very active Edgewood listserv (Yahoo group), plus an Edgewood Civic Association. The first Saturday of each month, I help with a neighborhood cleanup. Many other neighbors come out and help remove litter and keep the area looking nice, then we enjoy a friendly and free hot dog lunch. Proximity to the new Metropolitan Branch Trail for biking and running is a big plus; the trail leads to the Capitol, which is only 2.5 miles south of Edgewood. In terms of transport, the Rhode Island Station development at the Metro station is adding new businesses and residents to this Metro-friendly area, plus there are frequent buses along Rhode Island Avenue. I like living in Edgewood -- close to everything, yet, for now, relatively affordable -- and am definitely sticking around."
