"Walking around the fan and looking at all the seasonal wreaths and decorations on beautiful old row houses doesn’t get old. It’s such a pretty neighborhood. From the fan it’s also not too far (~1 mile) to the lakes at Byrd park, which is also a great place to walk your dog. You can also walk to the fan vet! Lots of restaurants are within walking distance too, along with dentists, small parks, coffee shops, museums, and markets. I walk my dog to Carytown from the fan too (~1 mile). Sugar and Twine in Carytown makes dog treats, and many of the stores are dog friendly. There are fun neighborhood events like house tours, a block that closes for Halloween, and an art walk."
  • Maria Begonia
"Like: Dog parks, Richmond also has a lot of things to do and go! Dislike: neighbors not very friendly "
  • Katie Lynn
"It’s a beautiful sight to walk around, lots of grass but in pockets. Monument ave is a good strip to run with your dog on grass"
  • Christina Kann
"Lots of dogs and grassy patches, I think dog owners would like living in this neighborhood for sure "
  • Natasha Payne
"Has been a really rough experience wish I could say better but neighbor is quiet, don’t see neighbors don’t have complaints known party area but police do well with traffic on weekends. However awful management, pet owners are not compliant or enforced about pet waste "
  • Gregory
"I’ve lived here going on four years people are friendly, and I feel safe in my neighborhood. It’s very convenient where I’m located it’s fairly walkable and there are many places eat and shop."
  • Wisechik38
"Great area, quiet & family oriented. I used to visit a friend often who lived on this street. I know the area well. It’s not far from my mom’s house. It’s well maintained."
  • Cody Nystrom
"The Halloween is very good in this neighborhood and the neighbors are very friendly. It is also extremely close to the public elementary being one block away"
  • Cody Nystrom
"Next to Mary Mumford public elementary school and their are a lot Of kids nearby that is it, there are also pets "
  • Trulia User
"Great neighborhood in Northside Richmond neighbors are friendly, lots of dog walkers with well mannered pets, "
  • 8wbrmvh5t4
"They would like it because of all the sidewalks and because many other dog owners seem to enjoy it. "
  • Unspecified
"Yearly neighborhood holiday, family, and kid centered gatherings in the large community and gardening space."
  • Sputman
"There are a lot of open spaces to walk your dogs. There are also so many wonderful parks and trails close by to visit. We walk every day and always have a different place to go. "
  • Jtclark70
"Some dogs owners have invisible fence so it is less pleasant to walk by their homes with your own pet. "
  • Carlo Tabz
"Depends on the area but there are a lot of dog owners in Scotts Addition, so far no issues. A lot of vet clinics in the area too"
  • Tamaranikkel11
"Many young families as well as long time residents so nice mix. Quiet. Safe beautiful area close to downtown and river front"
  • Sam Hudnall
"Do not raise children within city limits. move to south chesterfield, or west henrico. 30 minute drive to downtown, less of the hustle, and better community for young impressionable minds."
  • Alison Starr
"Safe as things can be with parental oversight. Beautiful trees, wooded areas, some biking trails, families with pets, library nearby."
  • Isobelle Johns
"This neighborhood isn’t built with pedestrians in mind. There are no sidewalks, leaving children and families without a safe path to walk or play. Streetlights are absent, making it dark and potentially hazardous after sunset. The lack of these basic amenities means the area isn’t walkable or friendly for those on foot. To get anywhere—whether it’s school, the store, or simply out for fresh air—having a car feels more like a necessity than an option. It’s a community designed for vehicles, not people, and it shows in how challenging it is to navigate without wheels. Quite limiting, don’t you think?"
  • Trulia User
"My wife and I absolutely love this neighborhood and can't wait to raise our kids here. Everyone is so welcoming."
  • Trulia User
"I would describe my commute as a normal commute when I am commuting in my community. It is easy due to me having a vehicle."
  • Duangchay
"There are new middle school and VCU near me. The street just got new bump settle so I think it is safer for children. The cars will run with speed limit because of that speed bump sign. "
  • Lhrpierced6
"It’s definitely a neighborhood to grow and accommodate your family. Generally a very quiet area that flies under the radar with little to no drama"
  • Yvette Louis
"My family and I would love to live in Richmond Va being that I live in New York City it’s very expensive I to live "
  • Stevenchasejordan
"Our section of Richmond is known as North Chesterfield. It has excellent schools, neighborhoods, markets, stores, restaurants and entertainment. "
  • Reshelle Johnson
"The area is full of life in the heart of the fan/ carytown, Vcu, and museum district. It’s safe to say that a lot has changed and it mostly for the better."
  • N4dj6br9y7
"Dora, many events related to the University of Richmond, Saint Catherine’s and Saint Christopher in the community regular basis. "
  • Andrew Auld
"My family has lived here for 3 years. There are families and small children all over our street. The community is great. "
  • Y8cdhryfmp
"To everything honestly it’s a good place if you have vehicle or don’t have a vehicle you can catch the bus"
  • Davebenz
"I lived here 7-8 years ago and it was wonderful then. Even better now. So many great restaurants, art galleries, parks and other things to do. And now it is right on a bus line, which is so convenient. And only about 5 blocks to VCU, too. Would love to live there again!"
  • knitfitt
