About this House

Newly Renovated 21-Foot Wide 1850's Townhouse Triplex in Historic DUMBO

This c. 1852 Early Greek Revival style townhouse was restored and renovated from top to bottom, highlighting its original features. After a year-long renovation, it has emerged as a shining example of a mid-19th century townhouse in the Vinegar Hill Historic District. During the restoration, a bounty of modern features were brought in, including the brand new kitchen and bathrooms, wide plank white oak flooring with radiant heat throughout, central air conditioning, double-glazed windows, and select smart home features. Now, for the first time since the renovation, the "owners' triplex" is offered for rent.

Entered up the stoop, a foyer leads to an open parlor floor with south-facing living area, central kitchen, and garden-facing dining room. The parlor floor displays some of the home's original features, including full height windows, an original fireplace surround, and the original double-pocket doors that divide the front parlor from the kitchen.

The modern kitchen, in the middle of the parlor floor, is dressed in off-white shaker cabinetry, marble countertops, and subway tile accents. A brick fireplace and an island with nostalgic trumpeted legs anchor this brand new kitchen to the tradition of the house. The modern appliance suite includes a 36" Wolf Oven and Range, a 36" Sub-Zero refrigerator/freezer, Bosch Dishwasher, Bosch Microwave, garbage disposal, and 48" Perlick Under-Counter Wine/Appetizer refrigerator. A large walk-in pantry/storage closet is also conveniently located within the kitchen.

At the rear of the parlor floor is a large dining area, able to accommodate a table for twelve guests. This area overlooks the garden through three large six-over-six windows and a glass door. Through the dining area, there is access to both the expansive terraced garden and a powder room.

Follow the home's original mahogany handrail up one flight to the second floor where a den/TV room occupies the central space between two bedroom suites. This informal living area or TV/play room is centered on another original fireplace surround and equipped with several built-in bookshelves and in-ceiling speakers. Two bedroom suites occupy either side of this floor. Each bedroom has handcrafted built-in shelving and cabinetry, and each with their own unique en-suite windowed bath. The north bathroom has a second door to the hall, serving as a second powder room. The laundry room is located off the stair-hall.

Up one more flight, the primary suite encompasses the entire top floor of the house. It is comprised of a large landing area, a full-width, six-fixture bath with separate water closet and double shower, a walk-in closet, and finally the skylit bedroom. The skylights are operable (thanks to solar powered motors), and the bedroom also enjoys northern light from a truly massive single plate window. Also located off the top floor's hallway is an approx. 200 square foot roof terrace.

Modern features at 237 Front Street include Lutron Smart Lighting, In-ceiling speakers, Nest Thermostats for year-round climate control, Google mesh WiFi and Cat6e wiring, Google Doorbell, and Samsung Smart Washer/Dryers.

Please note that the house is currently arranged as a two-family with an "owners' triplex" above a renovated garden apartment. Ownership can offer the garden apartment to the triplex renter as well.

237 Front Street is located in the Vinegar Hill section of DUMBO, and is nearby to the F-train at York Street or the A and C-trains at High Street. Enjoy easy access to the sprawling Brooklyn Bridge Park, along with other great neighborhood amenities like SoHo House, Cecconi's, Grimaldi's, Jacques Torres, The Time Out Food Hall, a local Equinox gym location, and the new Wegman's Grocery store at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

"I’ve lived in Dumbo since 1994, I don’t mind the changes, development or tourists... it’s what I love about this city, forever changing, moving and growing. At least we don’t have packs of wild dogs running around like we did in the 90’s "
  • Priyesh U.
"Easy commute to anywhere in NY F line, AC lines, bus, ferry all in the neighborhood. Wish they had second exit and elevator at the F station in York st "
  • Nickhobson

  • JJ
"I’ve lived in DUMBO/Vinegar Hill for 1 year. It’s my favorite neighborhood in Brooklyn. If you have young kids there are a lot of options for areas for them to play both indoors and outdoors. In the last year there has been an abundance of restaurants and shops opened. It’s a great community."
  • maureensullivan212
"Great urban area with waterfront, shopping, and the arts. Very walkable. But a $19,000,000 penthouse doesn't belong here. Anyone with that money is looking to buy in Manhattan."
