About this House

Rare opportunity in East Wilmette's sought-after Maple Park neighborhood, where an extraordinary 85-foot-wide lot provides a sense of space that is difficult to find. Thoughtfully renovated and substantially expanded in 2005, this home combines the character and craftsmanship of its original architecture with the generous room sizes, natural light and easy flow of a much newer home. The first floor offers an ideal balance of traditional rooms and connected everyday living spaces. Gracious living and dining rooms feature beautiful Brazilian Cherry hardwood floors, substantial millwork and stunning bay windows, while the heart of the home is the expansive kitchen with abundant cabinetry, an eat-in island, breakfast counter and plenty of room for a kitchen table adjacent to the hearth and fireplace. Just beyond, the spacious family room is wrapped in windows overlooking the property. A private office (which could also be used as a guest room), powder room and thoughtfully designed and customized mudroom with storage for the whole family complete the main level. Upstairs, the expansive primary suite is a true retreat with a fireplace, abundant natural light and a large private bath with double vanity and walk-in shower plus a walk-in closet. Generously sized secondary bedrooms offer wonderful flexibility. The charm of a dormered nook tucked beneath the roofline in one of the bedrooms is emblematic of the added character you'll find throughout. The lower level with 8 foot ceilings and concrete foundation (from 2005 renovation) provides additional recreation and flex space along with plenty of storage. Roughed-in for additional basement bathroom and exterior access offer tons of potential. The rare 85-foot-wide lot offers an incredible side yard with mature trees, established landscaping and a vast amount of usable green space. Play catch, garden, entertain, create a backyard hockey rink, relax at the firepit or simply enjoy the luxury of having room to spread out. A large 250-square-foot deck directly off the kitchen makes outdoor dining and entertaining effortless. All of this in the heart of Maple Park, one of East Wilmette's most beloved neighborhoods, close to Gillson Park and Lake Michigan beaches, schools, parks, the el, Metra and downtown Wilmette. A wonderfully livable home offering something increasingly rare: exceptional indoor and outdoor space in a location where you rarely have to choose between the two.

  • A.e.wolff
"Family environment. Summer beach nights. Open spaces and parks. Amazing schools with good progression. "
  • Aaron Walter
"Lots of other dogs in the neighborhood. Most everyone cleans up after their pets. The sidewalks are great for long walks. Lots of open spaces to play."
  • Hyun Y.
"V affluent area with diversity. Great school system, safe and clean. Can’t complain. Very kids friendly"
  • Smithp78
"Easy to commute to downtown via Metra. Not always easy to find parking at Metra after 7:15. A lot of people walk. Possible to drive downtown but takes up to 90 minutes in morning rush. "
  • Shannon J.
"People are extremely welcoming and friendly. We moved here a few months ago, and have never felt so immediately at home in a community!"
  • Iltonz
"I see people walking their dogs all the time, and they seemed happy! There are great parks and green areas for dogs in general."
  • Cheryl
"Lots of responsible dog owners walking their dogs in this area. People pick up after their dogs. Xxxxxxxxx"
  • Iam.pethcha
"The sidewalks are super clean which I can not find it anywhere like here also i feel safe living here even walking here at night time."
  • Jujujuice
"Lots of families. It’s a real community feel and people are very neighborly. And of course, great schools!"
  • Teresa
"Clean & wide sidewalks, many parks, fenced in dog beach plus another dog park. Many people own dogs & walk them several times a day. "
  • Zean N.
"It’s an amazing place to raise a family. Clean. Safe. Great schools. Close to the lake. Close to Chicago but far enough away to have a small town community feel. "
  • Miriam H
"Having a CTA station within a mile from our house makes the commute to Chicago doable. Depending on the day driving to and from the city during rush hour using Lakeshore or 94 is a hassle..."
  • Adroaras
"Certain parks are closed to dogs, but overall this is a dog friendly neighborhood. Also most of the parks have a poop bag station."
  • Satish Kumar
"very diverse demographics than past years! vibrant community, great facilities, amazing schools and school staff."
  • Teresa K.
"Great. All back roads to NU. never have to get on the free way. Only mild back UPS on Greenbay avenue during rush hour. There are lots of schools along the way which can slow you down due to buses and speed zones but that is the least of my worries "
  • Charles A.
"There are plenty of sidewalks and parks in the area. The only problem is there are no legal off leash parks within walking distance. "
  • Masahito J.
"Great schools, safe neighborhood, kids ride their bikes everywhere worry-free. Shops within walking distance. Great beach. Close to Chicago. "
  • Teresa K.
"very safe and very well maintained. prices are okay compared to our neighbors in Evanston. some neighborhoods, the houses all look the same but I enjoy the older neighborhoods where the homes have lots of old charm and character "
  • Keassouad
"Lake with beach, schools, access, community, restaurants, athletics, space to play transportation and character. "
  • Castle117
"I grew up here. Great forest preserve bike trails, the beach, pool clubhouse, and an excellent school district. "
  • cdtangney
"I have lived on and off in Wilmette for 30+ years. Grew up here. Eventually moved back here to raise my own family. Its one of the safest places in the country. The schools are excellent. The parks are beautiful, clean and have updated equipment. The Park District, With all that it has to offer for kids and adults, is incredible. The people are actively involved throughout the neighborhood. There are a few new dining and nightlife venues that are helping to make Wilmette all inclusive. Access to a great pool facility and one of the best beaches on the North shore just make it for this area. I highly recommend Wilmette to any young couple getting started, to anyone wanting to raise a family and to those looking to finish out their lives filled with quiet beauty in a safe place."
  • cg
"Have lived here for 10 years. The schools are superb and the people are like people anywhere. Some are nice and some are snotty but you can ignore them. Its great for the things that matter. Traffic getting into Chicago is usually bad but the Metra train is great."
  • conceptking
"Walking distance to everything - CTA, Metra, Parks, Beach, shopping in Wilmette and Evanston Central St. area. And a short drive to Sheridan Road/LSD and i-94.Phenomenal for families of all ages with nationally recognized and award winning schools. A fantastic and safe neighborhood and a hidden gem that borders Evanston. If there's a house that's within your budget range, make an offer - you will not be disappointed. "
  • lindamcz123
"I used to live in this community years ago and loved every day. There are two malls within walking distance. A couple of bus lines that can take you the the downtown train. Excellent expressway access going both north or south. The Park district is right across the street with an amazing Gym, child care and much, much more. LOVE Wilmette, and this area of it."
