"It’s a great place and schools for kids here. Lots of farmers markets and activities to do all over town."
  • KamberKool
"Good sidewalks for keeping you safe from traffic, streetlights, friendly dogs, respectful of property lines. Quite a few barking dogs though. Lack of barking training in this neighborhood. "
  • Sarah Statler
"Lots of dog walkers and a dog park nearby. Everyone is friendly and picks up after their dog. All dogs are leashed and don’t have to worry about a dog running out after you."
  • Emily B.
"Th are really into Halloween but most of all my neighborhood looks out for one another. I have lived in portage my whole life and I would recommend it to anyone :) the farmers market is near by and is wonderful. The schools are great too! "
  • Breiannchurch
"great place to live and raise a family. schools are rated high taxes are high though but u get what you pay for i suppose"
  • Deborah.bourlon
"Very green and beautiful, Portage is a nice city to live in. People are polite and friendly. My family lives there for 12 years so well recommended!"
  • Kimberly C.
"Very pet friendly area with lots of sidewalks, paths, and open spaces to enjoy. Many respectful pet owners"
  • Mariah B.
"The fireworks during holidays could cause problems for dogs who cant handle them. They would like that there are trails to walk them other than just sidewalks"
  • Kamille L.
"I'm close to grocery and shopping malls along with not too long of a drive to downtown kalamazoo. Traffic isn't that bad."
  • James B.
"I’m new but everyone has been very nice. It is quite and we have some wild life. Cars give people plenty of space."
  • Donya G
"I have lived in various Portage neighborhoods for last 25 years. It’s a good area, a quiet area. My daughters graduated Portage Northern. In my time here I have enjoyed living here."
  • Katie K.
"Nice family friendly suburbia. Situated smack dab between Chicago & Detroit at the intersection of I94 and 131"
  • Jjpowers8311
"Nothing, but high taxes, poor city water quality and public services are terrible ( leaf pick up, snow plowing) School buildings are amazing though"
  • a
"very friendly and comfortable. lots of families with dogs and pets. we have only good things to say "
  • Cristmay12
"Dog owners would not like that there is a busy road, but there are many other dogs in the area too. "
  • Kitoko B.
"I’ve lived here all my life. It’s a nice neighborhood always have been to me at least. It’s more then enough to do here "
  • Jjpowers8311
"Nothing stands out as unique in Portage MI. Many residential areas look run down. High taxes, water tastes bad, snow removal is horrendous. "
  • Judithlynn46
"There are not really any community events in our neighborhood. Houses are somewhat far spaced apart. It’s not a subdivision type of neighborhood. "
  • Trulia User
"Everything in the town of portage is easily navigable which makes a move here much easier. Portage is a great town for families as well; with good schools, lots of nature trail parks used for hiking, lots of different family oriented playground parks, a YMCA with great programs available, etc.... the list goes on! It is a wonderful little midwest town."
  • Jblacer2323
"Portage feels safe and has great schools . It’s a clean city with friendly people. There is a nice mall here. I feel safe walking at night here in portage. "
  • Scoochie1992
"I have lived here since I was 4 and I am 45. I knew that this was the place I wanted to raise my own kids. Great community, great schools. "
  • Adam.e.jeffrey
"There are a lot of parks nearby with trash cans and bags for easy poop disposal for when Rover decides that nature calls. "
  • Trulia User
"My commute is a short drive with plenty of “back roads” to take during the construction season or inclement weather. "
  • Jon P.
"Dumb people shoot fireworks at all hours of the night. There are road construction sites everywhere and seldom construction workers. I like the wildlife though and nice trails. Michigan is just not a nice place to live in the summer. "
  • Ann P. B.
"My commute to my job is quick and easy. A straight drive to downtown takes at most 15 minutes to get to downtown Kalamazoo. "
  • Shawsax
"The neighbors are very friendly and many of them take walks in this beautiful neighborhood. Cars are seldom seen, as this is a dead end street. However, the deer will eat your hostas. Consider planting something else. "
  • Charles B.
"Good schools, an amazing library with games and kids’ play room, and 10 minutes from about 4 or 5 different lakes. "
  • Amber B.
"Easy. A quick drive to and from work. Shopping and gas stations located conveniently on the way to most jobs."
  • Ana R.
"We do cookouts. For Christmas we have lights and reindeer for the kids to see. It’s very nice during all holidays usually there’s some kind of activities to do. "
  • Stacey W.
"Many people in my neighborhood own dogs. Seems to be a pet friendly area. My neighborhood is really good about keeping their dogs contained within their yard and are usually taken in at night."
