7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAll of the teachers my son had at Angling were for the most part wonderful. The problem I feel is if you have a student that is below average or has any disability. The school is not well equipped to help those students, and from my experience, the leadership is not willing to take the necessary steps to set them up for success. My son has ADD and had a very hard time with executive function and focus but his grades were fairly good. He got his diagnosis in 4th grade and I wanted to have a 504 plan in place. The principal and counselor completely guided me away from doing this. I learned later that they did this not because they had his best interest in mind but it is work for them and they didn’t want to put in the effort. They assured me they would get one in place before he went to middle school which they did not. When I think back to the conversation they made me feel like I was overreacting and it wasn’t needed. I know now that regardless of grades, if your student meets the qualifications, they can and should have a plan in place. 6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe chose this school for our kids because it offered challenge to our college bound kids. They all have graduated from Portage Northern High School. My kids have attended college or about to finish. One has a Master’s Degree in Economics & finishing a Respiratory Therapy Degree. Another has Registered Nursing Degrees and works as a coronary care nurse in a intensive coronary care unit and is about to start her PhD in Nurse Anestheseology. Another completed his MBA at Wayne State and works for Department of Defense. Finally, my youngest is a practicing Corporate Lawyer. All had a good foundation in their beginning years of Education. Portage Northern teachers and the implementation of the curriculum resulted in some very successful assets to our community and country.
