Description

UPDATE (FEB. 19, 2025): For those who have:
Expressed an interest in leasing our Altadena house;
Requested a tour or more information;
Toured the home;
Completed an Application,
We want to sincerely THANK YOU for your interest. This note is to update you regarding issues of timing and the status of the property.

Last week, our tenants vacated the property and granted us access immediately after their move-out. We used that opportunity to show the property to a small number of qualified applicants who we had previously interviewed. Even though the air quality inside the house seemed fine, my husband became ill with a minor cold - possibly from residual ash. Spending time in the home may have contributed to his "cold" and so, in an abundance of caution, we have decided not to show it again until Remediation of the property is completed.

We recently received a proposal for a Post-Eaton-Fire Remediation of the property, and have submitted it to our Insurer, the California Fair Plan, for approval. We now must wait for Adjuster Approval of the work plan before we proceed with the Remediation. We do not plan on showing the property again until after it has been fully Remediated. We are sorry for any inconvenience this delay may have caused, and do thank you for your patience and understanding. As we learn more about the timing and completion of the Remediation, we will post it on this page.

UPDATE (FEB.1, 2025): First, we would like to thank you for your interest in our home and express our appreciation for your patience. We have received applications and inquiries from many qualified neighbors. We would like to begin showing the property as soon as possible but are facing several hurdles before we are able to do so.

We recently had an inspection by an environmental clean-up company and are awaiting their bid. The main concern is our attic, as with many homes which were close to the fires. Ash accumulated through the air vents and will need to be remediated before we will be able to conduct tours with prospective tenants. We recently put in new double pane windows, which may have helped prevent ash accumulation.

We hope to move as quickly as we can. Our strong preference is to lease to an Altadena neighbor who lost their home in the fire. Our hearts break for those in this unfortunate dilemma. Some of the beautiful homes owned by applicants and lost to the fire are ones we remember seeing when winding through adjacent neighborhoods on our way to Fox's for breakfast.

We will be providing updates as we learn more.

PROPERTY DETAIL:
Located on a quiet tree-lined street in Altadena, this 3 bedroom 2 bath vintage "Cape Cod" style single-story Bungalow was custom built in 1945, but has been updated to modern between 2015 & 2024.

Improvements have included a new roof and double pane windows added for energy efficiency. In addition to systems updates (plumbing, electrical, sprinklers & HVAC) - renovations included a well thought out kitchen, a petite but lovely marble ensuite primary bathroom and a renovated secondary bathroom. This home has plenty of built-in storage and abundant character details.

LOCATION:
This home is situated on a large (~10,000 sf) bi-level lot, on a tree-lined street with MOUNTAIN VIEWS. The neighborhood is walkable and convenient to Eaton Canyon hiking, The Metro, Cal Tech, Old Town Pasadena shopping, dining & amenities. We hope you will love it here!

Easy commute to LA, Hollywood, Glendale, Burbank & other employment centers. Or work from home if this is an option for you.

INSIDE:
A spacious, light-filled LIVING ROOM with bay window & wood-burning fireplace. Note: We now REQUIRE that any new Tenants refrain from using the fireplace, in light of the recent FIRE DEVASTATION in the Eaton Canyon area. We appreciate your cooperation.

OPEN CONCEPT: As you enter the living room, which adjoins DINING ROOM & FAMILY ROOM, you can see straight through the house to the backyard.

Original 80 year old OAK HARDWOOD FLOORS throughout (except kitchen/baths).

A large KITCHEN, which has been thoughtfully upgraded with engineered hardwood floors, premium built-in appliances, including counter-depth stainless steel refrigerator, 5 burner GE Cafe Series gas double oven with griddle & convection, quiet Bosch dishwasher with custom cabinetry panel, custom soft-close maple cabinetry with full extension pull-outs, roomy drawers, marble countertops, farm sink, subway tile backsplash & pantry. Enjoy your coffee or tea in the sunny corner BREAKFAST NOOK.

The FAMILY ROOM (or could be a DEN or OFFICE) is bright, with patio access & triple windows overlooking and leading to spacious, fully fenced backyard, with raised vegetable garden beds, fruit trees, succulents, lavender, camellias, bougainvillea & climbing roses. Green thumbs welcome!

A restful spa-like ensuite PRIMARY BATHROOM with marble walk-in shower and versatile lighting. Also includes thoughtful storage, including built-in chargers, niches & a "triple" built-in medicine cabinet. Two transom windows assure great natural lighting for applying your makeup or getting that perfect shave. Upgraded GUEST or SECONDARY BATHROOM, renovated in 2021.

The home is offered UNFURNISHED. Furniture pictured belonged to previous tenants

Extra-wide double detached GARAGE with epoxy flooring contains a separate laundry room with modern washer & dryer (circa 2024). This garage also has a BONUS ROOM - perfect for your office, hobbies or a retreat.

Important Note: DUE TO THE EATON CANYON FIRES, WE ARE ANTICIPATING an overwhelming response to our Rental Listing. Please be aware of the following:

We (the owners) will be scheduling a post-Eaton Fire Remediation and Full House Cleaning as soon as the property is accessible. Private Tours will be scheduled after that date.

"Events at the Altadena Libraries; readings, community activities, the friendliness of most neighbors, the fact that there are so many who are willing to help others, there are many who love and want to help animals, etc."
  • Victoria Carbé
"We are an inclusive, diverse community of like minded people who are generally very warm, friendly and welcoming."
  • Saundra Parker
"Dog owners are definitely always welcome in the neighborhood. They wouldn’t like that if their dog or cat gets outside - especially during breeding time for bears, coyote, mountain lion, any carnivores - their pet may never be seen again or ever return."
  • Saundra Parker
"I work in a manner referred to as hybrid; I go into an office setting once or twice monthly. When I go into “the office”; the office alternates at a setting in the Arts district of downtown LA & downtown Pasadena. I experience a fairly stress-free commute."
  • Carolyn Dunn
"It’s a great place to live. I wish it was less expensive though. When I moved back to Southern California I wanted to be closer to work and I am, living here. "
  • Saundra Parker
"I rarely commute and perform most of my duties virtually, so - I commute to meetings/sites and average of once a month or once every two months to downtown Los Angeles, Santa Monica or Beverly Hills from Altadena."
  • Shakiyla A. D.
"Just at an air B and B. Really nice area. Close to everything. Schools, restaurants, nail salon, and near the rose bowl. Over all very good neighborhood. I’d come and stay again in the futures. I don’t have much more to say because I’m just visiting. "
  • Gan Z.
"near by here sometime have family concert, the liberrary is good place to know somebody. Children’s birthday party is good communication with neighbor."
  • Garcianny1
"The Christmas tree lighting, the food trucks and the catholic schools. The nearby parks as well. Pet friendly parks and neighbors are friendly. "
  • Laurie C.
"It’s diverse, eclectic and it feels rural, yet only 15 minutes from downtown Pasadena. We have stunning mountain and city views, wildlife and super friendly neighbors. Plus wild parrots and peacocks! "
  • Purrsoul
"It’s a wonderful community to raise children as there are lots of places to explore including amazing trails. "
  • Fernando C.

"my commute to downtown Los Angeles is wonderful as long as I leave is my house by 6:30 in the morning I make it to work in downtown L.A. by 7 a.m. it is also a great commute to downtown Pasadena and really close to the mountains."
  • Garcianny1
"Pretty accesible, transportation is punctual. Bus stops are close by, walking distance. Drivers are very courteous."
  • CGT
"There a lots of parks in the area. A great one is Farnsworth Park. People there are friendly and there are dog meet ups too"
  • Saundra P.
"Dog owners will be very pleased to live in this community. There are many pet lovers here. The only area of concern is there are wild animals living in the area; coyotes, bears, bobcats, skunk, opossum, rattlesnake and deer. Dogs and cats should never be left unmonitored in their yards, as they may be eaten or injured by coyotes at any time of the day."
  • Blackwingjenny
"The local country club does spectacular fireworks every 4th of July! Also the farmer’s market every week."
  • Houseofchellz13
"Great family neighborhood. Parking is good, traffic is moderate, stores nearby. Freeway access okay "
  • Carlos N.
"Not a good area to live. To much drugs. Homeless people everywhere police all over the place. Parking ticket officer give you tickets for no reason, etc...."
  • Anallamasguti3rr3z
"there are many families they should lower the rent so the families won't go to other cities. I believe that Altadena will become a ghost town "
  • Trulia User
"I've lived here for a few months and I can't wait to be out of here. Full of drug spots, police chases all the time. Junkies all over, nasty neighbors don't pick up after their dogs, etc...."
  • Amanda RM
"Reasonable commute out of town. Easy access to freeways and public transit. Lake is congested, which is to be expected. "
  • Ayo D.
"They dont have alot of sidewalks, therefore you must be careful when riding bike, walking dog or skating. "
  • Greek
"Very kid friendly neighborhood close to Pasadena and LA. My kids ride their bikes around and walk to school. "
  • Brian S.
"A lot of us dog owners meet in the morning and evening at the park at the end of the block. Unfortunately, there is not an off leash area."
  • Bob C.
"15 min drive to metro. Some busses around. Basically, you need a car, or like to walk or bike far to shop. The 134 is ever more congested because of big trucks, especially approaching 210 west from 134 westbound "
  • Mike R.
"Very diverse residents. Even the houses are quite different from one another. You do not feel like you are in Los Angeles. Much more like living in the country, yet only five minutes away from Pasadena. "
  • Vvalentino1
"We are a multi-ethnic community who live here out of the city chaos, but close enough to get into the city for work or cultural pursuits. We are supportive of each other. Kindred spirits on my block. Artists, professors, scientists, media people, animal lovers, gardeners, hikers who prefer maintaining a low profile and quiet simple and more authentic lifestyle raising children and enjoying grandchildren."
  • Wood r.
"Safe quiet neighborhood, good park nearby. We know most of our neighbors on a first name basis but there are rarely community events. The public library nearby is great."
  • Katherine L.
"my aunt has lived here over 20 years and all thats changed is her house value has skyrocketed but it's a great neighborhood "
  • KimberlyMcDonald
"Everyone in my area have dogs there’s not much sidewalk on my block but they do with it. There’s a trail further down the road both of you and your dog can hike. "
