The reputation of The Clarkstown School District is largely a myth. If your child requires any kind of support, accommodations, or encouragement, then you are out of luck. The teachers (for the most part) at Clarkstown South are mailing it in. Considering the school taxes that you are paying in Clarkstown, the poor quality of education your child will receive (unless already a good student), is criminal. Consider private school and save you and your child years of grief and heartbreak.

Highly unsupportive of disabilities and low income.

Hellish. Teachers listen to the students half the time MHand the other time you’re SOL. The principal (Dr St John as of March 2026) is a lovely person. They pretend to ease you in and by the end of the first month of 6th grade you have 1.5 hours of homework. Bullying is rampant. I’ve been called slurs not even used for my ethnicity, I’ve been beat up to the point of tears. I have met multiple people that are homophobic, the food is bad, the buses suck, and the past few years have been torture.

Teachers were awesome, very helpful and kind tests were pretty well leveled as well. School counselors were more helpful than any principal in any wing. Principals don't take accountability or even try to create a safe environment for every students. Counselors make an effort but dont take action as they aren't allowed to... by the principals. If you have any issue the school will not even try to look at it or solve it, they only care about how they look and if the test grades are good they dont care about anything else. School doesn't value mental health.

The grade system is messed up but it is a good school
