What Locals Say about Sag Harbor

"This is in the Hamptons which is a secondary home area near beaches. In off season, it is quiet and not many children live here. "

"Chill neighborhood, busy road, not very close to parks or school approximately 8 minutes by car to get to sag harbor town but great place overall "

"There is a lot of self policing. People walk up to your property and into your home without invites to tell you how things are done. Oh yes. They’ll tell you how long they’ve lived here as to show superiority. Many rent their homes and don’t use the shops or restaurants. They suck the town dry but don’t contribute. Others put the seasonal residents down who pay for the great schools and all the extras this town would not have without their tax dollars. They even point out who belongs and who doesn’t. Not as laid back as the picture they paints. Keep to yourself. You’ll love it here "

"Near to bay beach and village business district. The downtown has all the necessary shops, and though quite overcrowded in the summer, it’s a beautiful place to live. "

"The neighborhood of Sag Harbor Village is a wonderful location to live or vacation in. There's so much to do here, you can't do it all in one season. I've been living here one year and have barely scratched the surface. The area retains a neighborhood-y, genuine ambience even in the summertime. It's the perfect antidote to Manhattan or other city living. And if you love antique homes, this is the place to be."

"It's a wonderful place to live with excellent schools, a devoted community and an interesting population of fourth generation locals, many ex-patriot Europeans and exports from Manhattan. Shopping is excellent, as is dining, and our local movie theater shows films you don't get to see anywhere else. It's safe for kids - most people rarely lock their doors - and the weather is, for the most part, sunny, even in winter. If you're into any kind of sports, everything is available nearby, and two art museums enjoy international status. Manhattan is only 100 miles away - 2 to two and a half hours by train, bus or car. JFK is 2 hours away. "

"Sag Harbor is a dream village. Our short Main Street has a wide variety of restaurants and locally-owned shops. A coalition of non-profit organizations works non-stop to prevent big box development here and so far - with a few exceptions - we have managed to maintain the old-world charm of the Village. It is a fascinating community consisting of 4th generation locals and a large influx of Europeans, who have bought second homes here or settled here permanently. In recent years, our public schools have been rated amongst the best in New York State, causing an influx of new residents and a high demand for "school-year" rentals. The area is extremely safe in comparison to most other residential areas. The East End of Long Island offers every kind of sport, as well as two nationally rated art museums, a plethora of galleries, and all kinds of other seasonal amusements, such as wine-tasting, strawberry- and pumpkin-picking and hay rides. Evening entertainment includes theater productions and concerts of all kinds, as well as movies and performance art. Sag Harbor is only 2 1/2 hours from Manhattan - an easy week-end commute."
