Description
Roommate needed for spacious Victorian apartment in Midtown/Downtown ($1100 plus utilities)
38 year old male seeks a conscientious and mature person to rent two rooms in a 2nd floor apartment in a beautiful Victorian home. The rooms will be ready by June 5th and only those who can move in by June 15th (at the latest) will be considered. The rooms to rent are a spacious bedroom and an adjourning room that serves as an office and closet.
The common areas include the living room, kitchen, bathroom (apartment has only one), laundry room (both washer and dryer on site) and back patio. The kitchen is smaller but there's just enough space to store things and cook. Kitchen has a gas stove and oven that is older than most people you know but works fine and also a new dishwasher. We have AC and heat but the height of the ceilings makes it difficult and costly to control the temperature. The bedroom to rent has a window AC unit that is a lifesaver in the summer. As for storage and closet space, the smaller room to rent has two large wardrobe-like wooden units that you can hang clothes within and store things. These units came with the place and can be removed if you want extra space, but there is no other place to hang clothes, nor any designated closet in either room. There is also ample storage available in the downstairs hallway and stairwell.
Street parking is available and the light rail station is only three blocks away. The house is only a few minutes walk from the centers of downtown and midtown. Neighborhood is quiet and safe, with a bodega right across the street.
Lease is month to month. Move-in will require first and last month's rent ($2200). Rent is due on the 1st each month. In addition to the $1100 in rent each month, utilities (internet, gas, electric) run high due to the large area we have to cool or heat. Your share of utilities per month will range from $100-$150 in winter to around $200 in the summer. We'll make every effort to keep costs down while still keeping the apartment comfortable.
About me: I'm a state employee who works in the office four days a week. I have a six year old cat who is chill and likes people. Our lives are pretty quiet and drama-free, and we hope to keep it that way (especially the cat). I've lived in this apartment for almost nine years and it's been a good home. I'm hoping to share the apartment with an adult who is considerate and will keep the place relatively clean and peaceful.
No pets, sorry, but you'll have to be cool with living with a cat who will have access to the common areas.
If you are interested in the apartment, please message me and tell me a little about yourself. If I think you might be a good fit, I will invite you to a showing of the apartment either Sunday May 25th at 1pm or Wednesday May 28th at 5:30 pm. Once I've narrowed down applicants, I'll ask you to meet me once more to talk further and I'll have you fill out the application from the property management company. Once they clear you, they'll have you sign a roommate addendum and then you'll be set to move in. I'm still working this process out with the property management but they may have you submit to a credit and background check. Please also have some references ready to share.
Note on the photos: The rooms are a bit cluttered right now, but they will be completely empty and clean for when you move in. Also, there will be less furniture and clutter in the common areas as well. If you have furniture for the living room or kitchenware we can see what will fit.
