Description

Built in 1961 from the design of renowned architect Richard Fleming and featured in 2008 as one of the five residences on the Modestly Modern Glendale home tour, the Prock House is a timeless representation of modern style and exhibits many of the hallmark characteristics of the classic Post War post-and-beam style of architecture. The homes ultimate honor came in 2010 when it was placed upon the Glendale Register of Historic Resources and under The Mills Act Tax Contract. Architect Richard Fleming graduated from the USC architecture program in 1960. While working with the firm Buff and Hensman, Fleming worked on Case Study House #28, an extremely influential project that was produced under the auspices of Art and Architecture magazine. Around this time, 1339 Romulus Dr. was built as a speculative project by developer Robert Prock, who hired Fleming to design six other homes in the Glendale and Pasadena area. Passage through the front door dramatically reveals the secret concealed: glass walls along the north side of the house open the interior to breathtaking views over all of Glendale, creating a sensation that the house is floating above the city. The living room, kitchen and dining room are all on this upper floor where sliding glass doors lead out to a large balcony, inviting you to enjoy year-round entertaining with this spectacular backdrop. The open floor plan, beamed ceilings, hardwood floors, and clerestory windows at the gables are just a few of the architectural details highlights. Downstairs is a wonderful master suite, additional bedroom, office and media room. The Prock House has been meticulously maintained and remodeled, most notably with the expansion of the upper front deck using pest resistant Mangaris wood, completely refurbished hardwood floors, a newly designed laundry nook, and the state of the art media room.
