Pittsburgh Phillips is a superb public school (K-5) in the heart of one of the most eclectic neighborhoods in Pittsburgh. My family relocated to Pittsburgh (via Alaska and orginally from San Francisco) and I immediately fell in love with this school. The parental involvement was evident from the moment I stepped onto the campus and went to my first PTO meeting. The parents and teachers welcome you with open arms and there is a sense of community. I have particularly enjoyed my son's 3rd grade teacher, Ms. El Sabbagh. She has been the biggest advocate of my child and she ensured that he received the academic services that he needed to thrive. If you are a parent who enjoys the diversity of a good public school with excellent and committed parents and teachers, then this school is for you!

This is a review from someone who is not from the area. We relocated to Pittsburgh a year and a half ago so we we're not familiar with the area or the schools around us, and I always take reviews with a grain of salt. We are on the border between Brentwood & Carrick and were unsure what school my daughter would end up at, but lets be honest, we were hoping for Brentwood because.. reviews. Hate to say that but like I said, I didn't have any understanding of the area all that much and the move happened fast. But my daughter is now in her second year and it's really unfortunate that this school gets so much hate because coming in from a whole different state was stressful enough for her but there's been nothing but good support for her from admin and her classmates. I'm not familiar with anything going on there that would warrant such a bad review. My wife is more active with her activities than I but no red flags have ever come up. Her grades are consistently well, and there's been more than enough opportunities for her to get more help when she needed it. We're always in the know about what's going on.. sometimes a little TOO much with the emails but I think that's a minor nuisance and not even that big of a deal.I hope parents will do their homework when it comes to their kids education. It's easy to rely on a few bad reviews or get fixated on external things. I'll leave my review up until something changes.

Highly motivated staff. Excellent connections to the wider community with mentoring and after-school programs. Peaceful, positive environment.

The school has excellent leadership & teaching staff. I've seen a great deal of improvement in my son's reading ability plus the have a solid instrumental program. The school principal is by far the best I've seen in the two districts my son has attended

This school is phenomenal. We are so fortunate to go here. Our daughter loves school, has made wonderful friends. From the first week the teachers all seem to know every child by name. Students are greeted each morning with an all-school assembly with drumming, singing, a welcome message by the Principal, and the school rock band rocking out. Its a fantastic way to start the day! There are tons of field trips, lots of art and music incorporated into each day. We love it here!

Some teachers are great. But there are a few teachers that I cannot understand as to why they have choose to teach. Some are rude when you ask for help and do not support the children in a positive way. There are fights and some teachers or staff just stand there and watch. I know because I have seen several videos posted on Facebook before the restriction of cellphones.

I’m so glad I took my children out of Pittsburgh public schools they don’t know how to engage with the parents they do the kids wrong and they make the graduation rate of our urban youths so low they need to get rid of the whole board and staff and get them kids some real educators seriously

Excellent school, great service, for anyone looking to settle down in the highland park area
